Genesis 2 : The Planting of the Garden

8And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

The Forbidden Fruit

15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die.

Genesis 3 : The Serpent’s Deception(Genesis 7:1-5; Romans 5:12-21; 2 Peter 3:1-9)

1Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Yes, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. 4And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die: 5For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat. 7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

God Arraigns Adam and Eve

8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9And the LORD God called to Adam, and said to him, Where are you? 10And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat? 12And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.13And the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14And the LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: 15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

The Punishment of Mankind

16To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. 17And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life; 18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field; 19In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return to the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and to dust shall you return. 20And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

The Expulsion from Paradise

21To Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. 22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from from where he was taken. 24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

LUKE 12 : NOT PEACE, BUT DIVISION

Genesis 4 : Cain and Abel (Romans 2:1-16; Jude 1:3-16)

1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to the LORD. 4And Abel, he also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect to Abel and to his offering: 5But to Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6And the LORD said to Cain, Why are you wroth? and why is your countenance fallen? 7If you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. And to you shall be his desire, and you shall rule over him.

Cain Murders Abel

8And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. 9And the LORD said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10And he said, What have you done? the voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground. 11And now are you cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand; 12When you till the ground, it shall not from now on yield to you her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shall you be in the earth. 13And Cain said to the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from your face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me. 15And the LORD said to him, Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelled in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

The Descendants of Cain

17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch: and he built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18And to Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech. 19And Lamech took to him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20And Adah bore Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. 21And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. 22And Zillah, she also bore Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

Seth and Enosh

25And Adam knew his wife again; and she bore a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, has appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.26And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call on the name of the LORD.

God wiped out their fruits, which came from the works of their own hands, from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, with the Flood.

Genesis 6 : The Wickedness of Man

1And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repents me that I have made them.

In the beginning we see a precedent established that clearly separates one from the other.

2 seeds that produce 2 distinct types of fruit.

We also see that there are 2 distinct sets of people,

that receive nourishment from the fruit of each one.

The fruit from the ground, that Cain brought as an offering, was not from a seed planted by God.

Cain’s knowledge of good and evil

gave him the ability to till the ground

which led to the fruit he produced as his offering to God.

God did not have respect towards Cain’s offering because it was the work of his own hands.

Cain took his knowledge and built a city.

Abel brought the firstborn of the flock and the fat thereof as an offering.

This distinction is the dividing line that runs through the whole bible.

to fit your own desires

which creates an artificially contrived city of confusion by man

versus

… tending to what God had created.

and a city from God and peace.

MATTHEW 13

15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

συνίημι syníēmi, understand; to put together,

i.e. (mentally) to comprehend;

by implication, to act piously:—consider, understand, be wise.

MATTHEW 13 : THE PARABLE OF THE WEEDS

24Another parable put he forth to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27So the servants of the householder came and said to him, Sir, did not you sow good seed in your field? from where then has it tares?28He said to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Will you then that we go and gather them up?29But he said, No; lest while you gather up the tares, you ROOT up also the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather you together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

THE PARABLE OF THE WEEDS EXPLAINED

36Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came to him, saying, Declare to us the parable of the tares of the field. 37He answered and said to them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;

38The field is the world;

the good seed are the children of the kingdom;

the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39The enemy that sowed them is the devil;

the harvest is the end of the world;

and the reapers are the angels. 40As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be at the end of this world 41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who has ears to hear, let him hear.

A tare is a plant that commonly grows in fields of grain.

And although it looks similar to an edible grain, it isn’t suitable for food.

In fact, many feel the specific tare, or weed,

referred to in this parable is the darnel,

a poisonous weed that is very similar in appearance to wheat.

They look almost identical up until near the time of the harvest.

A threshingfloor

was used separating out grain

by stamping on heavily with the feet of people or oxen.

Sheaves of Grain

would be opened up and the stalks spread across the threshing floor.

Pairs of donkeys or oxen

would then be walked round and round,

often dragging a heavy threshing board behind them,

to tear the ears of grain from the stalks,

and loosen the grain itself from the husks.

A Husk is the outer protective coating

on the hull, on the fruit, on the seed,

that becomes chaff.

The chaff would be blown away by the wind;

the short torn straw would fall some distance away;

while the heavier grain would fall at the winnower’s feet.

The grain could then be further cleansed by sieving.

We are “set apart” from the world,

because we are

“reconciled” with God.

PSALM 1 : THE TWO PATHS (Matthew 5:3-12; Luke 6:20-23)

1Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night. 3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalm 125 : So the Lord Surrounds His People

1Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.

Post Flood

Nimrod took after “the way of Cain” and built the cities located in Babylon

The descendants of Noah became the 70 nations that went to build the Tower of Babel.

(They were attempting to rebuild the pre-flood city built by Cain and his descendants.)

Genesis 12 : The Calling of Abram (Genesis 26:1-5)

1Now the LORD had said to Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you: 2And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: 3And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 14 :The War of the Kings

11And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. 12And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelled in Sodom ^[h5467] , and his goods, and departed.

burnt (i.e. volcanic or bituminous) district;

as being built on bitimunous soil

Sedom, a place near the Dead Sea:—Sodom.

a Canaanite city, usually paired with Gomorrah,

located in the area of the Dead Sea and the Jordan river;

both cities destroyed by God in judgment

Abram Rescues Lot

13And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelled in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram. 14And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them to Dan. 15And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. 16And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

Genesis 19 : Lot Welcomes the Angels (Genesis 8:1-5)

1And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

12And the men said to Lot, Have you here any besides? son in law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whatever you have in the city, bring them out of this place: 13For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD has sent us to destroy it. 14And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked to his sons in law.

15And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters, which are here; lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16And while he lingered, the men laid hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful to him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for your life; look not behind you, neither stay you in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed. 18And Lot said to them, Oh, not so, my LORD: 19Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have showed to me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: 20Behold now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21And he said to him, See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which you have spoken.22Haste you, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till you be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23The sun was risen on the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

Sodom destroyed by God

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

24Then the LORD rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.

Lot’s Wife Looks Back

26But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: 28And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, see, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. 29And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelled.

Abraham and Sarah have Isaac.

Isaac and Rebekah give birth to Jacob

Jacob gives birth to 12 tribes of Israel.

70 souls from Jacob go in to Egypt and they multiply.

Exodus 1 : The Israelites Multiply in Egypt (Genesis 46:8-27)

1Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. 5And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were 70 souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. 6And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation. 7And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

Oppression by a New Pharaoh

8Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. 9And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: 10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falls out any war, they join also to our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens.

And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor:

14And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick,

and in all manner of service in the field:

all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor.

Exodus 2 : God Hears the Israelites’ Cry

23And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God by reason of the bondage. 24And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25And God looked on the children of Israel, and God had respect to them.

Exodus 3 : Moses at the Burning Bush

7And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good land and a large, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come to me: and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Exodus 7 : I will Stretch Out My Hand

1And the LORD said to Moses, See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. 2You shall speak all that I command you: and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. 3And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. 4But Pharaoh shall not listen to you, that I may lay my hand on Egypt, and bring forth my armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth my hand on Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. 6And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.7And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

EXODUS 11:7

that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

So we the same recurring pattern by the first chapter into Exodus:

Deuteronomy 6 : The Greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-34)

1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go to possess it: 2That you might fear the LORD your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. 3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you, in the land that flows with milk and honey.

Hebrews 13 :

14For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

We have no continuing city now because once Israel, after entering promised land, ultimately rebelled against God.

Jerusalem was besieged by the King of Babylon, where they were taken into captivity.

Jesus did not came to judge the world but to “save his lost sheep”, through his death and resurrection on the cross.

The common thread with the cities that were built and ultimately destroyed by God was Bitumen.

bitumen boils up from subterranean fountains like oil or hot pitch located near the Dead Sea and Babylon.

afterwards it hardens through the heat of the sun and is collected on the surface of the Dead Sea.

“pitch” in the above verse is tar or asphalt…aka bitumen

^[h2203] זֶפֶת zepheth, zeh’-feth; pitch, tar, asphalt

from an unused root (meaning to liquify);

asphalt (from its tendency to soften in the sun):—pitch.

^[h2203] is used only 1 other time in Isaiah when he warns the nations of God’s judgement.

Support for the vine

The use of vine training systems in viticulture is aimed primarily to assist in canopy management with finding the balance in enough foliage to facilitate photosynthesis without excessive shading that could impede grape ripening or promote grape diseases. Additional benefits of utilizing particular training systems could be to control potential yields and to facilitate mechanization of certain vineyard tasks such as pruning, irrigation, applying pesticide or fertilizing sprays as well as harvesting the grapes.^[2]

In deciding on what type of vine training system to use, growers will also consider the climate conditions of the vineyard where the amount of sunlight, humidity and wind could have a large impact on the exact benefits the training system offers. For instance, while having a large spread out canopy (such as what the Geneva Double Curtain offers) can promote a favorable leaf to fruit ratio for photosynthesis, it offers very little wind protection. In places such as the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, strong prevailing winds such as le mistral can take the fruit right off the vine so a more condensed, protective vine training system is desirable for vineyards there.^[3]

Natural bitumen from the Dead Sea

Asphalt , also known as bitumen

is a sticky, black, and highly viscous liquid

or semi-solid form of petroleum.

It may be found in natural deposits

or may be a refined product,

and is classed as a pitch.

The primary use (70%) of asphalt is in road construction

where it is used as the glue or binder

Its other main uses are for bituminous waterproofing products

In the ancient Middle East,

the Sumerians used natural bitumen deposits for

mortar between bricks and stones,

to cement parts of carvings,

such as eyes,

into place, for ship caulking, and for waterproofing.^[3]

More than 4000 years ago,

according to The Greek historian Herodotus and Diodorus Siculus,

hot bitumen was used as mortar in the walls and towers of Babylon.;

there were oil pitsnear Ardericca (near Babylon),

and a pitch spring on Zacynthus.

The 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) long Euphrates Tunnel

beneath the river Euphrates at Babylon,

in the time of Queen Semiramis ( the wife of Nimrod)

was reportedly constructed of burnt bricks

covered with bitumen as a waterproofing agent.

Bitumen was used by ancient Egyptians to embalm mummies.

The Egyptians’ primary source of bitumen was the Dead Sea,

which the Romans knew as Palus Asphaltites (Asphalt Lake).

Pliny refers also to bitumen being found in Epirus.

Global use

The vast majority of refined asphalt is used in construction:

primarily as a constituent of products used in paving and roofing applications.

It is estimated that the current world use of asphalt is approximately 102 million tonnes per year.

Approximately 85% of all the asphalt produced is used as the binder in asphalt concrete for roads.

A further 10% of global asphalt production is used in

roofing applications, where its waterproofing qualities are invaluable.

The remaining 5% of asphalt is used mainly for sealing and insulating purposes

in a variety of building materials, such as pipe coatings, carpet tile backing and paint.

Petroleum

The word petroleum comes from Ancient Greek:

πέτρα “petra” = “rocks”

andἔλαιον “elaion”   =”oil.”

It is commonly refined into various types of fuels.

It is estimated that the world consumes about 95 million barrels each day.
Oil refinery

Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-black liquid

found in geological formations beneath the Earth’s surface.

Petroleum is formed when large quantities of dead organisms,

buried underneath sedimentary rock

are subjected to both intense heat and pressure.

Petroleum has mostly been recovered by oil drilling (natural petroleum springs are rare).

It is refined and separated, most easily by distillation,

into a large number of consumer products,

from gasoline(petrol) and kerosene

Petroleum, in one form or another, has been used since ancient times,

and is now important across society,

including in economy, politics and technology.

The rise in importance was due to

the invention of the internal combustion engine,

the rise in commercial aviation,

and the importance of petroleum to industrial organic chemistry,

particularly the synthesis of plastics, fertilisers, solvents, adhesives and pesticides.

Coal

Coal is a fossil fuel that forms when dead plant matter

is converted into peat, which in turn is converted into lignite,

then sub-bituminous coal,

after that bituminous coal (asphalt),

and lastly anthracite.

Throughout human history,

coal has been used as an energy resource,

primarily burned for the production of electricity and heat,

and is also used for industrial purposes, such as refining metals.

Coal mining is the process of extracting coal from the ground.

Coal is valued for its energy content, and, since the 1880s, has been widely used to generate electricity.

Steel and cement industries use coal as a fuel for extraction of iron from iron ore and for cement production

Fossil Fuels :: DEAd works

Fossil fuels contain high percentages of carbon and include petroleum, coal, and natural gas.

The United States Energy Information Administration estimates that in 2007

the primary sources of energy consisted of

petroleum 36.0%,

coal 27.4%,

natural gas 23.0%,

amounting to an 86.4% share for fossil fuels in primary energy consumption in the world.

Non-fossil sources in 2006 included nuclear 8.5%, hydroelectric 6.3%, and others (geothermal, solar, tidal, wind, wood, waste)

amounting to 0.9% energy consumption was growing about 2.3% per year.

Hebrews 6: A Call to Maturity

All Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Persian, Nordic, etc., mythologies

provided the framework, for the same veiled story,

that all had the same common goal…

to rebuild Babylon through the merging of all sciences.

Atlantis, Arcadia, Columbia, the Golden Age, the Golden Fleece, the Holy Grail, the Philosopher’s Stone…

These are all legends of a quintessential “something”

that was sought after, lost but still possible to restore.

Myth speaks of a former time and place,

of fabulous deeds by men of renown,

and of an object of wisdom

that was highly prized but dangerous to procure.

4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

A tree with golden fruit is the symbol of that lost quintessence;

The “god” of the fruit tree is the bestow-er of lost knowledge.

Genesis 2 : The Forbidden Fruit

Some of the greatest philosophical influences transferred to Western Europe

from Constantinople was the work of the Neo-Platonist’s.

This philosophy continued the ideas of Plato,

who believed that all the workings of knowledge and civilization

had been conveyed to humanity from a divine source,

and was not conceived by the mind of man.

Through a series of disasters on a world scale,

civilizations and the knowledge that had produced it was lost.

In Plato’s Timaeus, is the story of Atlantis,

the greatest and oldest civilization the world has ever seen,

that haddisappeared “in a single day and night of misfortune”.

There exist no earlier sources of the legend of Atlantis besides the world of Plato.

Timaeus was one of the most copied and widespread of Plato’s works in the Renaissance.

In the Neo-Platonic philosophy,

the story of Atlantis was considered allegory with underlying truth,

or in some cases, a true historical account.

It applied the framework from which the Neo-Platonists searched for lost knowledge.

Manuscripts of Hippolytus, Proclus, Arisophanes, Plutarch, Apuleius,

and many others from antiquity

developed the theme that knowledge

had been given to man from a divine source.

Through its misuse resulting in the corruption of mankind,

it was lost by a subsequent judgment from heaven.

Neo-Platonic views of the time also sought to link

the celestial and natural world with the divine,

an idea borne out of a reawakening to the scientific value of the ancient texts of the Greeks.

The Scientific Revolution was united with an Occult Renaissance.

Geometers, mathematicians, chronologists, philosophers, and theologians of the age

searched the texts of the ancients for the “Lost Pure Knowledge”

or Prisca Sapienta that would “merge all sciences”

THE TOWER OF BABEL

In the the ancient Hebrew language the word which is translated “ladder” can also mean a hill, a mound, or any artifically contrived means of ascent. It is quite possible therefore that the Jews used the term ladder to include the type of building now called a pyramid. Most early illustrations of the Tower of Babel show it to be the type of building called by the Chaldeans a ziggurat, or astronomical observation tower. The ziggurat was an artifical hill with a circular stairway ascending in a spiral around the outside.Of such type of buildings some ruins still remain an

d reconstructions of Hanging Gardens of Babylon invariably show this type of structure.

The Tower of Babel, as described by the Jesuit priest Athanasius Kircher, was undoubtedly an astronomical tower. The building was said to have been erected by the descendants and servants of the ancient hero Nimrod, who was called the mighty hunter. This building, built of mud and held together with slime, was the prototype of Jacob’s Ladder which led up through the seven worlds to the sphere of the Zodiac.

The story of the Tower of Babel has many meanings:

It is a form of the World Mountain – Asgaard, Meru, Olympus, the Axis Mountain of the ancient Egyptians, the symbol of the North Pole.

It is the Mystery School or philosophical ladder, the rungs of which are the degrees of initiation.

Man, climbing upward through the sacred stations of the initiatory rite, was declared to be ascending toward the gods.

The levels and platforms of the ziggurat were appropriate symbols of the planes of consciousness through which the human soul ascends toward Reality.

The Tower of Babel is the physical earth itself.The ancient ziggurats nearly always had seven steps of six platforms rising from a foundation.

The foundation in this case is physical matter, and the six ascending platforms are the superphysical parts of the earth’s septenary.

The Tower of Babel is man’s own seven-fold body, the organism through the perfection of which he becomes “as a god, knowing good and evil”.

The Tower of Babel was physically and actually an astronomical monument.

The Magian star-gazers, ascending this tower and examining the stars, were said to be communing with the gods.

In the Biblical account, Babel is man’s monument to pride, and in the end the gods confused the tongues of men and prevented the completion of the towers; so the word Babel has come to mean a confusion of tongues. The original word was a form of Babylon. The confusion of tongues is symbolical of the corruption of the ancient Mysteries and the intellectual darkness which descended upon ancient man as a punishment for the perverting of the sacred rites. The secrets of the esoteric wisdom were lost and, as in the Greek mythology, the gods punished mankind for its presumptions and vanity. The Jewish story of Babel is of the same type as the Greek myth of Prometheus. But it was while studying the stars from the heights of Babel that the Chaldean star-gazers discovered the sacred alphabets of constellations, which later recur in the account of handwriting on the wall of heaven at the feast of Belshazzar. The Hebrew alphabet is composed of letters based upon star groups. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,

a term given to it by ancient Hellenic culture.

The Hanging Gardens were described as:

a remarkable feat of engineering

with an ascending series of tiered gardens

containing a wide variety of trees, shrubs, and vines.

The gardens were said to have looked like

a large green mountain

constructed of mud bricks.

Because no physical evidence for the Hanging Gardens has been found at Babylon,

The theory is that they were purely mythical,

and the descriptions found in ancient Greek and Roman writers

including Strabo, Diodorus Siculus and Quintus Curtius Rufus

represent a romantic ideal of an eastern garden.

Genesis 11:1 “the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.”

This is a tool that recently came out that I use at my work.

Its a type of compiler that takes

the source code of a program written in one programming language,

and produces the equivalent source code in another programming language.

This is when it really sunk in for me that we were back in Babylon.

2 Peter 2:

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb,

The new One world Language : “Binary Code”

A binary code represents text, computer processor instructions, or other data

using the two-symbol binary number system

of 0 and 1.

Binary Code came from Egypt:

sends binary code to a processor

which then in turns translates that into the data you see on a screen like so

Alchemy is a philosophical and protoscientific tradition practiced throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.

It aimed to purify, mature, and perfect certain objects.

Common aims were:

chrysopoeia, the transmutation of “base metals” (e.g., lead)

into “noble metals” (particularly gold);

the creation of an elixir of immortality;

the creation of panaceas able to cure any disease;

and the development of an alkahest, a universal solvent.

The perfection of the human body and soul was thought to permit or result

from the alchemical magnum opus and,

in the Hellenistic and western tradition,

the achievement of gnosis.^[2]

In Europe, the creation of a philosopher’s stone was variously connected with all of these projects.

In English, the term is often limited to descriptions of European alchemy,

but similar practices existed in the Far East, the Indian subcontinent, and the Muslim world.

In Europe, following the 12th-century Renaissance

produced by the translation of Islamic works on science

and the Recovery of Aristotle,

alchemists played a significant role in early modern science

(particularly chemistry and medicine).

Islamic and European alchemists developed a structure of

basic laboratory techniques, theory, terminology, and experimental method,

some of which are still in use today.

However, they continued antiquity’s belief in four elements

and guarded their work in secrecy

including cyphers and cryptic symbolism.

Their work was guided by Hermetic principles related to

magic,

mythology,

and religion.

Modern discussions of alchemy are generally split into an examination of its

exoteric practical applications and its esoteric spiritual aspects,

despite the arguments of scholars like Holmyard^[6] and von Franz^[7]

that they should be understood as complementary.

The former is pursued by historians of the physical sciences who examine the subject

in terms of early chemistry, medicine, and charlatanism,

and the philosophical and religious contexts in which these events occurred.

The latter interests historians of esotericism, psychologists, and some philosophers and spiritualists.

The subject has also made an ongoing impact on literature and the arts.

Despite this split, which von Franz believes has existed since the Western traditions’ origin

in a mix of Greek philosophy that was mixed with Egyptian and Mesopotamian technology,^[7]

numerous sources have stressed an integration of esoteric and exoteric approaches to alchemy

as far back as Pseudo-Democritus’s first-century ad

Technology

The dawn of Western alchemy is sometimes associated with that of metallurgy, extending back to 3500 bc.^[18]

Many writings were lost when the emperor Diocletian ordered the burning of alchemical books^[19] after suppressing a revolt in Alexandria (ad 292).

Few original Egyptian documents on alchemy have survived, most notable among them the Stockholm papyrus and the Leyden papyrus X.

Dating from ad 300–500,

they contained recipes for dyeing and making artificial gemstones,

cleaning and fabricating pearls,

and manufacturing of imitation gold and silver.^[20]

These writings lack the mystical, philosophical elements of alchemy,

but do contain the works of Bolus of Mendes (or Pseudo-Democritus),

which aligned these recipes with

theoretical knowledge of astrology and the classical elements.^[21]

Between the time of Bolus and Zosimos, the change took place that transformed this metallurgy into a Hermetic art.^[22]

Philosophy

Alexandria acted as a melting pot for philosophies of

Pythagoreanism,

Platonism,

Stoicism

and Gnosticism

which formed the origin of alchemy’s character.

An important example of alchemy’s roots in Greek philosophy,

originated by Empedocles and developed by Aristotle,

was that all things in the universe were formed from only four elements:

earth, air, water, and fire.

According to Aristotle, each element had a sphere to which it belonged and to which it would return if left undisturbed.^[23]

The four elements of the Greek were mostly qualitative aspects of matter, not quantitative, as our modern elements are;

“…True alchemy never regarded earth, air, water, and fire

as corporeal or chemical substances in the present-day sense of the word.

The four elements are simply the primary, and most general,

qualities by means of which the amorphous and purely quantitative substance

of all bodies first reveals itself in differentiated form.”

Later alchemists extensively developed the mystical aspects of this concept.

Mythology

Alchemical writers used Classical figures

from Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology

to illuminate their works and allegorize alchemical transmutation.^[16]

These included the pantheon of gods

related to the Classical planets,

Isis, Osiris, Jason, and many others.

The central figure in the mythology of alchemy

is Hermes Trismegistus (or Thrice-Great Hermes).

His name is derived from the god Thoth and his Greek counterpart Hermes.

Hermes and his caduceus or serpent-staff, were among alchemy’s principal symbols.

According to Clement of Alexandria,

he wrote what were called

the “42 books of Hermes“,

covering all fields of knowledge.^[17]

The Hermetica of Thrice-Great Hermes is generally understood

to form the basis for Western alchemical philosophy and practice,

called the hermetic philosophy by its early practitioners.

These writings were collected in the first centuries of the common era.

Hermeticism

is a religious, philosophical, and esoteric tradition

based primarily upon writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (“Thrice Great”).

These writings have greatly influenced the Western esoteric tradition

and were considered to be of great importance

during both the Renaissance^[4] and the Reformation.^[5]

The tradition claims descent from a prisca theologia,

a doctrine that affirms the existence of a single,

true theology that is present in all religions

and that was given by God to man in antiquity.^[6]^[7]

Many writers considered Hermes Trismegistus to be

a wise pagan prophet who foresaw the coming of Christianity.

St. Thomas Aquinas reported that Trismegistus arrived at something akin to the doctrine of the Trinity.^[12]

An account of how Hermes Trismegistus received the name “Thrice Great”

is derived from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus,

wherein it is stated that he knew

the three parts of the wisdom of the whole universe.

The 3 parts of the wisdom are alchemy, astrology, and theurgy.

The Poimandres, from which Marsilio Ficino formed his opinion,

states that

“They called him Trismegistus
Baphomet, goat of Mendez, “As above, so below”

he was the greatest philosopher

and the greatest priest

and the greatest king.”^[14]

The Suda (10th century) states that

“He was called Trismegistus on account of his praise of the trinity,

saying there is one divine nature in the trinity.”^[15]

Much of the importance of Hermeticism arises from its connection

with the development of science during the time from 1300 to 1600 AD.

The prominence that it gave to the idea of influencing or controlling nature

led many scientists to look to magic and its allied arts

(e.g., alchemy, astrology) which, it was thought,

could put Nature to the test by means of experiments.

Consequently, it was the practical aspects of Hermetic writings that attracted the attention of scientists.^[16]

Isaac Newton placed great faith in the concept of

an unadulterated, pure, ancient doctrine,

which he studied vigorously to aid his understanding of the physical world.^[17]

Many of Newton’s manuscripts—most of which are still unpublished^[17]

—detail his thorough study of the Corpus Hermeticum,

writings said to have been transmitted from ancient times,

in which the secrets and techniques of influencing the stars

and the forces of nature were revealed,

i.e. As Above, So Below.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

was an organization devoted to the study and practice of

the occult,

metaphysics,

and paranormal activities

during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Known as a magical order,

the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was active in Great Britain

and focused its practices on theurgy and spiritual development.

Many present-day concepts of ritual and magic

that are at the centre of contemporary traditions,

such as Wicca and Thelema,

were inspired by the Golden Dawn,

which became one of the largest single influences on 20th-century Western occultism.

The three founders,

William Robert Woodman, William Wynn Westcott, and Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers,

were Freemasons

and members of the Rosicrucians in Anglia

Westcott appears to have been the initial driving force behind the establishment of the Golden Dawn.

The Golden Dawn system was based on hierarchy and initiation like the Masonic Lodges;

however women were admitted on an equal basis with men.

The “Golden Dawn” was the first of three Orders, although all three are often collectively referred to as the “Golden Dawn”.

How Coal is Converted into Electricity

Coal is placed in a machine called a pulverizer which grinds the coal into fine powder

The powder mixes with hot air which helps to make it burn more efficiently

The mixture is moved to a furnace

The burning coal heats water in a boiler creating steam

Coal is the largest worldwide source of energy for the generation of electricity

Electricity :: The ELECTRIC CITY

Electricity remained little more than an intellectual curiosity for millennia until 1600,

when the English scientist William Gilbert made a careful study of electricity and magnetism,

distinguishing the lodestone effect from static electricity produced by rubbing amber.

He coined the New Latin word electricus

(“of amber” or “like amber”, from ἤλεκτρον, elektron, the Greek word for “amber”)

to refer to the property of attracting small objects after being rubbed.

This association gave rise to the English words “electric” and “electricity”,

which made their first appearance in print

in Thomas Browne’s Pseudodoxia Epidemica of 1646.

The early 19th century had seen rapid progress in electrical science,

the late 19th century would see the greatest progress in electrical engineering.

Electricity turned from a scientific curiosity into an essential tool for modern life,

becoming a driving force of the Second Industrial Revolution.

The solid-state device came into its own with the invention of the transistor in 1947.

Common solid-state devices include transistors, microprocessor chips, and RAM.

A specialized type of RAM called flash RAM

is used in USB flash drives and more recently,

solid-state drives to replace mechanically

rotating magnetic disc hard disk drives.

In the 19th and early 20th century, electricity was not part of the everyday life of many people, even in the industrialised Western world.

The popular culture of the time accordingly often depicts it as

a mysterious, quasi-magical force that can slay the living,

revive the dead or otherwise bend the laws of nature.^[81]

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is the world leader in space exploration. JPL scientists have put robots on Mars, sent probes into interstellar space, and collected dust from the tails of comets. But what if the real purpose behind its mission was something darker?

What if the lab was less interested in exploring outer space than the depths of the void? What if its researchers huddled around their computer screens in search of paranormal entities or dark gods crawling clear of the event horizons of nearby black holes?  Of course, that’s not the case. JPL is not part of some Joss Whedon-esque occult-industrial complex. It does not mingle science with the supernatural. Yet one of its founders did.

“John W Parsons, handsome 37 year old rocket scientist killed Tuesday in a chemical explosion, was one of the founders of a weird semi-religious cult that flourished here about 10 years ago,” read a report.

The rhetoric got more lavish as the days went by.

“Often an enigma to his friends [he] actually led two lives….In one he probed deep into the scientific fields of speed and sound and stratosphere—and in another he sought the cosmos which man has strived throughout the ages to attain; to weld science and philosophy and religion into a Utopian existence,” wrote one paper.

Soon the newspapers were at fever pitch with talk of “sexual perversion,” “black robes,” “sacred fire,” and “intellectual necromancy.” At the heart of every story was one simple question: Who the hell was this guy? It’s hard to find as weird and tragic a tale in the annals of science as that of John Whiteside Parsons. Born 100 years ago, Parsons seemed devoted to reconciling opposites, smashing together the technical and the spiritual, the white lab coat and the black robe, fact and fiction, science and magic. When he died in a mysterious explosion at his home laboratory, the tabloids weren’t the only ones to label him a mad scientist. So too did the scientific establishment. The story of Parsons was locked in the attic, hidden in the footnotes, swept under the launchpad of the US space program.  But Parsons’ scientific legacy is impossible to ignore. He forced the United States government to explore a science it had previously mocked, and laid the foundation for the rockets that carried man into outer space. He was one of America’s greatest space pioneers. He just happened to also be one of its greatest occultists.

If you were to tell someone you were a rocket scientist during the 1920s and 1930s, they’d have either laughed at you or backed away with a worried expression on their face. No universities taught rocketry courses and there were no government grants allotted to rocketry research. To the public, rockets were pure science fiction, and in established scientific circles, they were even worse, synonymous with the ridiculous, the far-fetched, the lunatic, a byword for insanity.

It was the very fantastical nature of rockets that first drew the young Parsons to it. Inspired by the stories in pulp science fiction magazines like Astounding and Amazing, he began building simple gunpowder rockets in his Pasadena backyard and peppered the upscale neighborhood with burned out cardboard tubes and flaming paper.

When Parsons realized he needed some theory to bolster his experimentation, he and his friend, Ed Forman, calmly strode into the halls of the nearby California Institute of Technology and asked for it. Parsons was lacking any scientific qualifications beyond high school, but his enthusiasm piqued the interest of a broad-minded graduate student named Frank Malina. Together the three formed what was disparagingly known as the Suicide Squad, a ragtag group of rocketry enthusiasts whose volatile experiments threatened to kill them.

At Caltech, Nobel prizewinners rubbed shoulders with one another on a daily basis. Despite this fact, the prejudice against rockets was still strong. Fritz Zwicky, a renowned physics professor, became a particular bugbear of the group.

When Malina and Parsons approached him for some help, Zwicky erupted. “He told me I was a bloody fool,” Malina recalled, “that I was trying to do something that was impossible, because rockets couldn’t work in space.”

This was absolutely incorrect, directly contravening Newton’s Third Law of Motion. (When rocketry godfather Robert Goddard proposed in 1920 that rockets could reach the Moon, he was mercilessly, incorrectly mocked in similar fashion.) Zwicky’s response made abundantly clear that although Parsons had been brought into the fold, he was by no means part of the established scientific flock.

Parsons made this fact even clearer when he started to develop a growing interest in magic and the supernatural. By the late 1930s, he had begun frequenting nightly meetings of the Ordo Templi Orientis, an occult society that met in nearby Los Angeles.

The OTO, as it is known, was created by the English occultist Aleister Crowley, a heroin-addicted, sexually adventuresome, God-profaning master of the dark arts, who the tabloids had christened “The Wickedest Man in the World.”

At these gatherings Parsons watched as strange rituals were performed, most notably the ‘Gnostic Mass’, a weird take on the Catholic mass. On a black and white stage stood an altar embossed with hieroglyphic patterns, a host of candles and an upright coffin covered with a gauze curtain out of which the group’s caped leader would appear. Poetry was read, swords were drawn, breasts kissed, and lances stroked. It was a highly charged sexual atmosphere. Wine was drunk and cakes made out of menstrual blood were consumed.

It was here that Crowley’s philosophy of Thelema was propounded. Thelema was a type of religious libertarianism that spoke of radical individualism and self-fulfillment. Its creed was “Do What Thou Wilt.” Parsons was immediately hooked. He became especially intrigued by Crowley’s belief that sex could be an intrinsic component of magical rituals, lifting the practitioner onto a higher plane of consciousness. What 24-year-old wouldn’t be?

While some of his Suicide Squad colleagues saw Parsons’ incipient occultism as kooky—communism was the preferred diversion of most Caltech students in the 1930s, according to period stories from school newspaper The California Tech—it did not prevent them from recognizing his genius at manufacturing rocket fuels. At the group’s testing ground Parsons could be heard chanting Crowley’s pagan ‘Hymn to Pan‘ prior to igniting his rockets. And the scorching flames and frequent explosions added a suitably infernal backdrop to his interests in the supernatural.

In 1941, Parsons and the Suicide Squad founded the Aerojet Engineering Corporation to sell their rockets to the military. Scientists who had previously derided Parsons’ work now queued up to join this boom industry. In 1943, with the need for advanced research into rockets growing exponentially, Parsons co-founded the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to continue the study of his one-time backyard playthings. At the same time as he was reaching his professional peak, he also found himself moving up the ranks of the OTO, corresponding with the aged Crowley in England, and eventually becoming the group’s leader on the West Coast.

Just think about that for a second: one of the top minds driving America’s early rocket program, a program that helped fuel the space race and the Cold War, was at the same time a leading figure in the world of the occult. By day he built rockets for the government, by night he emerged from a coffin to perform sex magic with his followers.

But for Parsons it didn’t seem strange at all. He treated magic and rocketry as different sides of the same coin—both had been disparaged, both derided as impossible, but because of this both presented themselves as challenges to be conquered.

Rocketry postulated that we should no longer see ourselves as creatures chained to the Earth, but as beings capable of exploring the universe. Similarly, magic suggested there were unseen metaphysical worlds that existed and could be explored with the right knowledge. Both were rebellions against the very limits of human existence; in striving for one he could not help but strive for the other.

Three years before his death he wrote of his unusual position in terms that would have astounded any of his backers in the US military, but which for him seemed totally sane.

“It has seemed to me that if I had the genius to found the jet propulsion field in the US, and found a multimillion dollar corporation and a world renowned research laboratory, then I should also be able to apply this genius in the magical field,” he wrote in a letter to a fellow OTO member. He was shooting for the Moon.

With the money he had earned from Aerojet’s booming rocketry business, Parsons bought a mansion on Pasadena’s Millionaire’s Row and moved the OTO’s operations into it. “It was a huge wooden house,” remembered Liljan Wunderman, Frank Malina’s wife, in an interview years later. “A big, big thing, full of people. Some of them had masks on, some had costumes on, women were weirdly dressed. It was like walking into a Fellini movie. Women were walking around in diaphanous togas and weird make-up, some dressed up like animals, like a costume party.”

When she told her husband about it, Malina simply rolled his eyes, saying, “Jack is into all kinds of things.”

Nicknamed “The Parsonage,” the house became a natural magnet for all sorts of eccentrics, from professed witches and Manhattan Project scientists, to science fiction writers thrilled by their discovery of Parsons, a figure seemingly ripped from the pages of the pulps.

The sci-fi author Jack Williamson remembered Parsons as “an odd enigma.” A young Ray Bradbury, still years from writing Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles, recalled Parsons as being “wonderful” and dazzled him with his descriptions of space rockets. Sprague de Camp, author of over a hundred fantasy and sci-fi books, declared him, “an authentic mad genius if ever I met one.”

Increasingly the scientific establishment was beginning to agree with de Camp. Parsons’ work on rocket fuels, mixing and melding chemicals to create something that was both highly explosive and yet controllable, had helped make rocketry a viable science, but he was increasingly perceived as being too weird, too eccentric, to keep working within it.

He was accused of seducing Aerojet’s secretaries by inviting them back to his mansion where debauchery, drugs, and fire dancing ruled. He met visiting scientists at his front door with a snake curled around his shoulders. At work he would arrive late and bedraggled in the mornings in a beaten up Packard and would treat the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as if it was his own private playground.

Fritz Zwicky, who had dismissed Parsons out of hand a few years earlier, had by now eaten his words and begun working for Aerojet. However, he still held huge contempt for the untrained Parsons and his unconventional lifestyle. Zwicky later remembered him as “a dangerous man” in an oral history interview by R. Cargill Hall and James H. Wilson.

“We told him all the time, I mean, all these fantasies about Zoroaster and about voodoo and so on, this is okay; we do that too in our dreams,” he said. “But keep it for yourself; don’t start impressing this on poor secretaries. I mean he had a whole club there you know.”

But Parsons wouldn’t slow down. He and Forman were renowned for holding duels on the rocket testing range, firing guns at each other’s feet and trying not to flinch. When Zwicky insisted that Parsons try a type of rocket fuel that Parsons disapproved of, Parsons discovered where the fuel was kept and blew up the whole batch in a mammoth explosion, “blowing up half the business,” according to a furious Zwicky.

It was stuff he’d been doing since he and Forman were youngsters, back when nobody but they took rocketry seriously. Now, however, a lot of people were taking rocketry very seriously indeed. The FBI began investigating him as a possible security risk.

In 1943 Parsons was gently squeezed out of the very science he had created. He was offered $20,000 for his shares in Aerojet and, feeling the cold shoulder from the increasing number of scientists involved in rocketry, decided to leave. He was 30 years old.

He threw himself into his magic—not just Crowley’s magic, but strange new rituals of his own creation. Ever the scientist, he strived for physical proof that his magic was working by straining to obtain visitations, phenomena, and manifestations.

Without his rocketry work to act as a counterbalance, even his fellow OTO members started to worry about his growing magical intensity. “There is something strange going on,” wrote Jane Wolfe in a letter to fellow OTO member Karl Germer. “Our own Jack is enamored of witchcraft, the houmfort, voodoo. From the start he always wanted to evoke something—no matter what, I am inclined to think, so long as he got a result.”

His fortunes were not helped by the arrival at his house of a hugely charismatic young science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard was a teller of exceptional tall tales, which he insisted his audience believe. His fellow sci-fi writers viewed him with suspicion.

“I recall his eyes, the wary, light-blue eyes that I somehow associate with the gunmen of the old West, watching me sharply as he talked as if to see how much I believed,” recalled Jack Williamson. “Not much.” But Parsons, who was always more than willing to believe, fell under his spell.

They fenced together, discussed magic together, and even performed magical rituals together. Hubbard moved into Parsons’ mansion and, taking to the air of free love like a fish to water, worked his way through the denizens’ girlfriends, wooing them and wowing them in equal measure. Whether you were an OTO member or a sci-fi writer, no wife or girlfriend was safe from Hubbard’s seductive pull. Not even Parsons’.

But Hubbard made up for it by helping Parsons on the grandest magical working he had yet attempted.

This was known as the Babalon Working, an attempt by Parsons to incarnate an actual goddess on Earth.

For weeks the two of them engaged in ritual chanting, drawing occult symbols in the air with swords, dripping animal blood on runes, and masturbating in order to ‘impregnate’ magical tablets.

When news got to Crowley in England he was appalled.

On May 22, 1946, he wrote a telegram to one of the OTO’s other members: “Suspect Ron playing confidence trick—Jack Parsons weak fool—obvious victim prowling swindlers.”

At the end of it Parsons believed the magical working had been a success, declaring it the greatest achievement of his life. But Crowley was right about Hubbard. In a July 1946 letter to Crowley, Parsons wrote that, under the guise of investing in a business venture, Hubbard had run off with Parsons’s girlfriend and $20,000 of his money, sending Parsons into a spiral of doubt and depression.

He managed to obtain some consulting work on rockets, but was swept up in in the Red Scare of the post-war years. He was accused of consorting with communists in the pre-war years and of being involved in what the FBI termed was a “love-cult.” He had his security clearance stripped from him. He was forced to pump gas, fix cars, and eventually ended up using his incredible scientific knowledge to make explosive squibs for Hollywood movies. Throughout it all he was insistent that his magical works were as real as his rocketry work.

On June 17, 1952, a huge explosion ripped through his home laboratory. Arriving police found Parsons still alive, although half his face had been ripped off, exposing the skull beneath. His right arm was missing. Surrounding him were rocketry papers and pentagrams, occult drawings and chemical formulae. He died shortly afterwards. He was just 37 years old.

The young Parsons spoke for hours with Wernher von Braun in phone correspondence about rocketry.

Von Braun was responsible for the creation of the Research Institute at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

As a result of his vision, the university is one of the leading universities in the nation for NASA-sponsored research.

The building housing the university’s Research Institute was named in his honor, Von Braun Research Hall, in 2000.

13You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels.

Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators,

stand up, and save you from these things that shall come on you.

14Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. 15Thus shall they be to you with whom you have labored, even your merchants, from your youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save you.

Isaiah 23 : The Fall of Tyre

1The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. 2Be still, you inhabitants of the isle; you whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. 3And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations. 4Be you ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins. 5As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. 6Pass you over to Tarshish; howl, you inhabitants of the isle.

The Sidon bitumen is thought to refer to material found at Hasbeya.

Hasbeya is located at the Foot of Mt. Hermon where Jesus told Peter,

“on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail”

7Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.

8Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earth? 9The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. 10Pass through your land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength. 11He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD has given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof. 12And he said, You shall no more rejoice, O you oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shall you have no rest.

13Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.

14Howl, you ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste. 15And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. 16Take an harp, go about the city, you harlot that have been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that you may be remembered. 17And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. 18And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

Bitumen is placed into a machine called a pulverizer which grinds the coal into fine black powder.

EXODUS 32 : THE GOLDEN CALF (Deuteronomy 9:7-29)

1And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. 2And Aaron said to them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me. 3And all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. 4And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a engraving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 5And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

MOSES INFORMED OF ISRAEL’S SIN

7And the LORD said to Moses, Go, get you down; for your people, which you brought out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: 8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be your gods, O Israel, which have brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 9And the LORD said to Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff necked people: 10Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of you a great nation.

11And Moses sought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why does your wrath wax hot against your people, which you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? 12Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people. 13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. 14And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people.

MOSES DESCENDS WITH THE TABLETS

15And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 16And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven on the tables. 17And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

18And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

MOSES BREAKS THE TABLETS

19And it came to pass, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

20And he took the calf which they had made,

and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder,

and strewed it on the water,

and made the children of Israel drink of it.

MOSES INTERCEDES FOR ISRAEL

30And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said to the people, You have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up to the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin. 31And Moses returned to the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. 32Yet now, if you will forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray you, out of your book which you have written. 33And the LORD said to Moses, Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.34Therefore now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you: behold, my Angel shall go before you: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin on them. 35And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

20And the wine press was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the wine press, even to the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Revelation 18 : Babylon is Fallen

4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. 5For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her double according to her works: in the cup which she has filled fill to her double.7How much she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she said in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. 8Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

Lament over Babylon

9And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall mourn her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, 10Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is your judgment come.

11And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise any more: 12The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, 13And cinnamon, and odors, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. 14And the fruits that your soul lusted after are departed from you, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,16And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! 17For in one hour so great riches is come to nothing. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, 18And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like to this great city! 19And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

The Saints Rejoice

20Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her. 21And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. 22And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he be, shall be found any more in you; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in you; 23And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all nations deceived. 24And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain on the earth.

Revelation 15 : Seven Angels with Seven Plagues

1And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. 2And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 3And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of saints. 4Who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name? for you only are holy: for all nations shall come and worship before you; for your judgments are made manifest.

MATTHEW 25 : A TREE AND ITS FRUIT (Matthew 12:33-37; Luke 6:43-45)

Greater Love has No One than This

13Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. 15From now on I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known to you. 16You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 17These things I command you, that you love one another.

The Hatred of the World

18If the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. 19If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21But all these things will they do to you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. 23He that hates me hates my Father also. 24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25But this comes to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

Galatians 5 : Living by the Spirit (Romans 8:9-11)

24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

John 5 : Overcoming the World

1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that begat loves him also that is begotten of him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

Jesus is the Son of God

9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.10He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.

The New Jerusalem
