Part 2 – Kingdom Divided
While at Horeb, the law was written and given to his people (the 12 tribes), and the aliens that had left and joined with them, on Mt. Sinai.
While on the mount, God also gave Moses instructions for the tabernacle.

Numbers 13 : The Spies’ Reports
25When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days, 26they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. 27Thus they told him, and said, “We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28“Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29“Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.”
30Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it.” 31But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us.” 32So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size. 33“There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
The only one’s that brought back positive report ::
Caleb from Tribe of Judah
Joshua from Tribe of Ephraim
Nun = “fish” or “posterity” (offspring of one progenitor to the furthest generation… all future generations.)
God makes them wonder in the wilderness for 40 years. A year for each of the 40 days the spies were gone. It was only the children of this generation, that was to enter the Promised Land under Joshua.
8Now on the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.
Aarons had budded, bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. It was kept as a token against the rebels and murmuring and placed before the ark of the covenant.
2nd Census of west Taken 38 years after spies sent out. 21.7%
For 19 years they passed the boundaries of EsauFor 19 years they passed the passed the road of the Wilderness of Moab (jasher 84)
1/11/40 Just before entering the promised land, God added a new covenant, to that which was given to the generation before.
The covenant that came to the first generation under Moses, were not so much the instructions, but the blessings and curses that would result pending the obedience or disobedience to the Law.
The Covenant at Moab was an expansion of the blessings and curses given at Horeb. Compare to what Moses says to the next generation:
Here Moses talks briefly about the added covenant being given to them.
1Then Moses and the elders of Israel charged the people, saying, “Keep all the commandments which I command you today. 2“So it shall be on the day when you cross the Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with lime 3and write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over, so that you may enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.
Blessings from Mount Gerizim
11Moses also charged the people on that day, saying, 12“When you cross the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
All the blessings came from the children of Rachel and Leah.
Gerizim = “cuttings off”
It is a mountain in northern Israel in Ephraim near Shechem from which the blessings were read to the Israelites on entering Canaan; site of the Samaritan temple built after the captivity
SHECHEMis located 17 miles WEST of the JORDan (now called Nablos)
Shechem = “back” or “shoulder” :: Hebrew שְׁכֶם (shĕkem) H7926 “shoulder*” 17v
Shechem is the 1st place the Lord appeared to Abram after calling him out of Babylon in Genesis 12.
Shechem was where Joshua made a covenant with the people after crossing the Jordan. (Joshua 24:25)
Shechem was were Joseph and Joshua were buried.
Joshua 24 : 32
they buried the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up from Egypt, at Shechem, in the piece of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of money; and they became the inheritance of Joseph’s sons.
The onyx stone was placed on the shoulders of the High Priest Garments
The Onyx Stone was the same stone used to represent Joseph on the High Priests Breastplate
ISAIAH 22:22
22And the key of the house of David will I lay on his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Curses from Mount Ebal
13“For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14“The Levites shall then answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
Curses came from the Children of Rachel and Leah’shandmaids.
With the exception of Reuben who was the 1st born of Leah but lost his birthright to Joseph.
Solomon built temple in Jerusalem after David’s Death :: 480 years after Exodus
1 kings 6 : The Building of the Temple
1Now it came about in the 480th year after the sons of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the 4th year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
Under King Solomon rule, he led Israel to follow other gods.
Remember that God said He would scatter them among the nations, if they didn’t follow his instructions.
So after Solomon died, He gave 10 tribes of Israel to Jeroboam who was from the tribe of Ephraim
1 KINGS 11
They became known as the NORTHERN KINGDOM
Judah and benjamin became known as the SOUTHERN KINGDOM
JEROBOAMwas also in charge of the whole labor force of Joseph.
The Northern Kingdom did nothing different than what Solomon did under his rule.
In 721 BC God had Assyria conquer Sumeria and take the Northern Kingdom captive to Assyria.
We must remember it was Ephraim that was promised to be the fullness of the nations.
The Gentiles.
The fullness of those not belonging to God.
Here we see the prophesy of Ephraim begin to manifest.
In all of this we see that which was spoken over 1100 years earlier concerning Ephraim, by Jacob himself.
Now we see this scripture in Deuteronomy beginning to unfold, as the people of Israel no longer remain a people, but begin assimilating into the nations.
6Then the LORD said to me in the days of Josiah the king, “Have you seen what faithless Israel did? She went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and she was a harlot there. 7“I thought, ‘After she has done all these things she will return to Me’; but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it. 8And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot 9“Because of the lightness of her harlotry, she polluted the land and committed adultery with stones and trees. 10“Yet in spite of all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in deception,” declares the LORD.
They are truly, no longer His people.
In the book of Hosea, Hosea charged Ephraim (Israel) with:
Violating basic covenant requirements of faithfulness and kindness, rejecting knowledge of God and His law.
Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Becoming self satisfied and proud and had forgotten God’s grace.
Engaging in idolatry.
Trusting in human devices (kings, princes, and foreign covenants) rather than God.
This would describe us today, right down to the last detail.
Hosea is the perfect parallel between God and Israel, and Hosea and his wife.
Both were loving husbands of unfaithful wives.
Like a marriage partner, God is deeply involved in our lives and is pained when we go our own way. He demands love and loyalty from His own. We have failed to demonstrate this yet He stands ready to forgive and restore those who turn to Him in repentance. In buying Gomer’s freedom, Hosea pointed ahead to God’s love perfectly expressed in Christ, who bought the freedom of His bride, the church, with His own life.
They are truly, no longer His people.
Israel today is only known by the Southern Kingdom today…Judah.
You would think with all that happened to the Northern Kingdom, the Southern Kingdom would make it a lesson learned for themselves.
Since they didn’t learn their lesson from the Northern Kingdom, they were taken captive to Babylon.
Daniel 2 : Daniel’s Prayer for His People
1In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of Median descent, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans— 2in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, observed in the books the number of the years which was revealed as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, 70 years.
The Northern Kingdom, however, never returned and rarely acknowledged as unified entity in scripture again, because they were eventually dispersed and never returned to Sumeria, like the Southern Kingdom returned to Judah.
So where did they go?
No one really knows. As a whole they became truly lost.
