The water that melts from the snow caps of Mount Hermon (Bashan) is what forms the Jordan River.

The Jordan River is formed from the melted snow caps of Mt. Hermon, where Jesus was Baptized.

Jesus built His church at the Base of Mt. HERMON where the Temple of Pan was and where He said the Gates of Hell would not prevail.

Dan = “Judge”  דָּן Dân, dawn;  

  • Dan was the son of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid.

Hermeticism

  • also called Hermetism,[1][2] is a religious, philosophical, and esoteric tradition based primarily upon writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (“Thrice Great”).[3] 
  • These writings have greatly influenced the Western esoteric tradition and were considered to be of great importance during both the Renaissance[4] and the Reformation.[5] 
  • The tradition claims descent from a prisca theologia, a doctrine that affirms the existence of a single, true theology that is present in all religions and that was given by God to man in antiquity.[6][7]
  • Many writers, including Lactantius, Cyprian of Carthage,[8] Augustine,[9] Marsilio Ficino, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Giordano Bruno, Campanella, Sir Thomas Browne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, considered Hermes Trismegistus to be a wise pagan prophet who foresaw the coming of Christianity.[10][11] 
  • St. Thomas Aquinas reported that Trismegistus arrived at something akin to the doctrine of the Trinity.[12]
  • An account of how Hermes Trismegistus received the name “Thrice Great” is derived from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, wherein it is stated that he knew the three parts of the wisdom of the whole universe.[13]
  • The three parts of the wisdom are alchemy, astrology, and theurgy.
  • The Poimandres, from which Marsilio Ficino formed his opinion, states that “They called him Trismegistus because he was the greatest philosopher and the greatest priest and the greatest king.”[14]
  • The Suda (10th century) states that “He was called Trismegistus on account of his praise of the trinity, saying there is one divine nature in the trinity.”[15]
  • Much of the importance of Hermeticism arises from its connection with the development of science during the time from 1300 to 1600 AD.
  • The prominence that it gave to the idea of influencing or controlling nature led many scientists to look to magic and its allied arts (e.g., alchemy, astrology) which, it was thought, could put Nature to the test by means of experiments.
  • Consequently, it was the practical aspects of Hermetic writings that attracted the attention of scientists.[16]
  • Isaac Newton placed great faith in the concept of an unadulterated, pure, ancient doctrine, which he studied vigorously to aid his understanding of the physical world.[17] 
  • Many of Newton’s manuscripts—most of which are still unpublished[17]—detail his thorough study of the Corpus Hermeticum, writings said to have been transmitted from ancient times, in which the secrets and techniques of influencing the stars and the forces of nature were revealed, i.e. As Above, So Below.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn דָּן Dân, dawn;  

was an organization devoted to the study and practice of

  • the occult, 
  • metaphysics,
  • and paranormal activities 
  • during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Known as a magical order, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was active in Great Britain and focused its practices on theurgy and spiritual development.

Many present-day concepts of ritual and magic that are at the centre of contemporary traditions, such as Wicca and Thelema, were inspired by the Golden Dawn, which became one of the largest single influences on 20th-century Western occultism.

The three founders, William Robert Woodman, William Wynn Westcott, and Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, were Freemasons and members of the Rosicrucians in Anglia Westcott appears to have been the initial driving force behind the establishment of the Golden Dawn.

The Golden Dawn system was based on hierarchy and initiation like the Masonic Lodges; however women were admitted on an equal basis with men.

The “Golden Dawn” was the first of three Orders, although all three are often collectively referred to as the “Golden Dawn”.

The Second or “Inner” Order, the Rosae Rubeae et Aureae Crucis (the Ruby Rose and Cross of Gold),

The Third Order was that of the “Secret Chiefs”,

who were said to be highly skilled; they supposedly directed the activities of the lower two orders by spirit communication with the Chiefs of the Second Order.

THE DRUIDS

A druid (Welsh: derwydd; Old Irish: druí; Scottish Gaelic: draoidh) was a member of the high-ranking professional class in ancient Celtic cultures.

While perhaps best remembered as religious leaders,

  • they were also legal authorities,
  • adjudicators,
  • lorekeepers,
  • medical professionals
  • and political advisors.

While the druids are reported to have been literate, they are believed to have been prevented by doctrine from recording their knowledge in written form, thus they left no written accounts of themselves. They are however attested in some detail by their contemporaries from other cultures, such as the Romans and the Greeks.

The sense of “oak-knower” or “oak-seer” is supported by Pliny the Elder, who in his Natural History considered the word to contain

Oak Fairy

Oak is one of the most sacred trees, traditionally prized by the Celts and Druids. The oak fairy is very powerful, and imparts strength and endurance to any who stay within its aura.

Each oak tree is a very metropolis of fairies, and each acorn has its own sprite. Bringing one into the house is a way to enhance contact with the fairy realm. Oak beams are often used to make doors, but the tree itself is a great portal to the other realms.

The oak is associated with many gods all over the world, notably Zeus and Thor. In sacred groves of oak, the Goddess was believed to impart her wisdom through oracles. The oak has sheltered many a king and hero, in myth and real life. The oak spirit is distinct from fairies, and may become very angry if trees are felled or wildlife harmed.

The oak fairy brings courage and a stout heart, necessary to brave the challenges in this world and to journey in the Otherworld. Bearing strength from the heart of the earth, oak fairy can bring steadiness and a deep joy that endures through all.

The Oak tree is considered the most powerful and most sacred of the trees to the Celtic peoples. It holds the true alignment of balance, purpose and strength. In the cycle of the year, the Moon of Oak also poses the essence of power and balance. In truth, She is androgynous. Being integrated, this moon essence provides the greatest alignment for manifesting our goal.

Oak Mother’s Celtic name is Duir.

It means door and is derived from the word Druid or Druidess, the Celtic person who has

  • mastered memory,
  • intuition,
  • healing,
  • knowing
  • and magic.

Bohemian Grove is a 2,700-acre (1,100 ha) camBohemian Grovepground located at 20601 Bohemian Avenue, in Monte Rio, California, belonging to a private San Francisco-based gentlemen’s clubknown as the Bohemian Club. In mid-July each year, Bohemian Grove hosts a more than two-week encampment of some of the most prominent men in the world.[1][2]

The main encampment area consists of 160 acres (65 ha) of old-growth redwood trees over 1,000 years old, with some trees exceeding 300 feet (91 m) in height. 

The Bohemian Club’s all-male membership and guest list includes

  • artists, particularly musicians,
  • as well as many prominent business leaders, 
  • government officials,
  • including former U.S. presidents,
  • senior media executives,
  • and people of power.

In 1881, the ceremony of the Cremation of Care was first conducted after the various individual performances, with James F. Bowman as Sire.[5] The ceremony was further expanded in 1893 by a member named Joseph D. Redding,[6] with a Midsummer High Jinks entitled The Sacrifice in the Forest, or simply “Druid Jinks”, in which brotherly love and Christianity battled and won against paganism, converting the druids away from bloody sacrifice.[7] Redding formed the framework of the ceremony but the main actors, including George Tisdale Bromley as High Priest, were asked to supply their own major speeches.[7] In 1904, the prologue to William Henry Irwin’s Grove Play The Hamadryads included text such as “Touch their world-blind eyes with fairy unguents.”

The play depicted the intrusion, the battles, and the symbolic death of the maleficent Spirit of Care.[8] 

The ceremony involves the poling across a lake of a small boat containing an effigy of Care (called “Dull Care”).

Dark, hooded figures receive from the ferryman the effigy which is placed on an altar, and, at the end of the ceremony, set on fire.

This “cremation” symbolizes that members are banishing the “dull cares” of conscience.[14]

 At the time the script was developed, the primary meaning of the word ‘care’ (< O.E. cearu, “anxiety, anguish”) was synonymous with ‘worry’, having more negative connotations than in modern times when it tends to be associated more positively with compassion.[15]

The ceremony takes place in front of the Owl Shrine, a 40-foot (12 m) hollow owl statue made of concrete over steel supports. The moss- and lichen-covered statue simulates a natural rock formation, yet holds electrical and audio equipment within it. During the ceremony, a recording is used as the voice of The Owl. For many years the recorded voice was club guest Walter Cronkite.[16] Music and pyrotechnics accompany the ritual for dramatic effect  

The Club motto is “Weaving Spiders Come Not Here”, which implies that outside concerns and business deals (networking) are to be left outside. When gathered in groups, Bohemians usually adhere to the injunction, although discussion of business often occurs between pairs of members.[2]

Important political and business deals have been developed at the Grove.[5]

The Grove is particularly famous for the Manhattan Project planning meeting that took place there in September 1942, which subsequently led to the atomic bomb.

Those attending this meeting included 

  • Ernest Lawrence, 
  • J. Robert Oppenheimer,
  • the S-1 Executive Committee heads,
  • such as the presidents of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton,
  • along with representatives of Standard Oil and General Electric 
  • as well as various military officials.

At the time, Oppenheimer was not an S-1 member, although Lawrence and Oppenheimer hosted the meeting.[8]

Grove members take particular pride in this event and often relate the story to new attendees. 

 

The Manhattan Project

In 1942, the United States federal government chose Oak Ridge, Tennessee as a site for developing materials for the Manhattan Project.  The project location was established within a 17-mile-long (27 km) valley. This feature was linear and partitioned by several ridges, providing natural protection against the spread of disasters at the 4 major industrial plants—so they wouldn’t blow up “like firecrackers on a string.”[13]

Oak Ridge’s nicknames include 

  • the Atomic City,[6]
  • the Secret City,[7]
  • the Ridge,
  • and the City Behind the Fence.

 The 3 Oak Ridge Gatehouses, also known as

  • “checking stations”,  “guard houses”, or “guard shacks”,

are security checkpoints in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, built c. 1948-1949 to control access to the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) production and research facilities in Oak Ridge.

  • Bear Creek Road Gatehouse, 
  • Oak Ridge Turnpike Gatehouse.
  • Bethel Valley Road Gatehouse
  • Jacob put his gods under oak at Shechem before heading to Bethel (“House of God”)
    • Shechem is 17 miles west of Jordan
  • Deborah (“bee”) Rebekah’s nurse was buried under an oak at Bethel

Two years after World War II ended, Oak Ridge was shifted to civilian control, under the authority of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). The Roane Anderson Company administered community functions, including arranging housing and operating buses, under a government contract.[32] In 1959 the town was incorporated. The community adopted a city manager and City Council form of government rather than direct federal control.

The S-50 liquid thermal diffusion plant was demolished soon after the war. K-25, where uranium was enriched by the gaseous diffusion process until 1985, was demolished in 2013–15. Two of the four major facilities created for the wartime bomb production are still standing today:

  • Y-12, originally used for electromagnetic separation of uranium, is used for nuclear weapons processing and materials storage.
  • X-10, site of a test graphite reactor, is now the site of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The Department of Energy runs Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a nuclear and high-tech research establishment at the site, and performs national security work. 

 Titan, a supercomputer at the National Laboratory, was named the world’s fastest supercomputer in 2012.[34] It was surpassed in 2013 by China’s Tianhe-2 supercomputer. Tours of parts of the original facility are available to American citizens from June through September. The tour is so popular that a waiting list is required for seats.[35]

Oak Ridge’s scientific heritage is explored in the American Museum of Science and Energy.

Its role in the Manhattan Project is preserved in the Manhattan Project National Historical Park (along with sites in Hanford, Washington and Los Alamos, New Mexico), run cooperatively by the National Park Service and the Department of Energy.

In 1983, the Department of Energy declassified a report showing that significant amounts of mercury had been released from the Oak Ridge Reservation into the East Fork Poplar Creek between 1950 and 1977.

Baphomet (/ˈbæfoʊmɛt/)

is a term originally used to describe an idol or other deity that the Knights Templar were accused of worshipping and that subsequently was incorporated into disparate occult and mystical traditions. It appeared as a term for a pagan idol in trial transcripts of the Inquisition of the Knights Templar in the early 14th century.[1] The name first came into popular English usage in the 19th century, with debate and speculation on the reasons for the suppression of the Templars.[2]

Since 1856, the name Baphomet has been associated with a “Sabbatic Goat” image drawn by Eliphas Levi[3] which contains binary elements representing the “sum total of the universe” (e.g. male and female, good and evil, etc.).[4]

 A binary code represents text, computer processor instructions, or other data using any two-symbol system, but often the binary number system’s 0 and 1.  All data entered into a computer, each letter, sends binary code to a processor which then in turns translates that into the data you see on a screen like so

Lévi’s depiction of Baphomet is similar to that of The Devil in early Tarot.[47] Lévi, working with correspondences different from those later used by S. L. MacGregor Mathers, “equated the Devil Tarot key with Mercury,” giving “his figure Mercury’s caduceus, rising like a phallus from his groin.“[48]

Lévi believed that the alleged devil worship of the medieval Witches’ Sabbath was a perpetuation of ancient pagan rites. A goat with a candle between its horns appears in medieval witchcraft records,[49] and other pieces of lore are cited in Dogme et Rituel.

The Knight’s Templar order’s higher echelons in particular had also acquainted themselves with-and incorporated into their practice-beliefs based on the mystic teachings of the Cabala, the influence of the Bogomils, and Luciferians, thus leaving Christianity behind. According to the Templars, Jesus was a god ruling in another world, with little or no power in our present one. Satan was the lord of this material world of ours.

Now the rumors were confirmed: Candidates for the order were indeed required to deny God, Christ and the Saints, committed sacrilegious acts, spit and urinate onto the holy Cross, be kissed square on the mouth with the “Oscolum Infame” or “The Kiss of Shame” on the navel and buttocks by the more senior Knights Templars, during the initiation ceremony.

That they freely practiced homosexuality and other sexual perversions, that the Grand Master wielded total authority over everything, that they practiced rituals of sorcery and used Cabalistic symbolism was clear evidence that the order had had become a sect blasphemous to Christianity. Their questioning revealed yet another of their unorthodox practices: Without being specific, they had admitted to idolatry, but during their ongoing interrogation, it gradually emerged that without any doubt, they were worshipping Satan.

Leviticus 24 : Shelomith’s Son Blasphemes

10And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; 11And the Israelitish woman’s son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. An Eye for an Eye (Matthew 5:38-48; Luke 6:27-36)

Aleister Crowley

The Baphomet of Lévi was to become an important figure within the cosmology of Thelema, the mystical system established by Aleister Crowley in the early twentieth century.

Baphomet features in the Creed of the Gnostic Catholic Church recited by the congregation in The Gnostic Mass, in the sentence:

“And I believe in the Serpent

and the Lion,

Mystery of Mysteries,

in His name BAPHOMET.“

Crowley asserted that Baphomet was : 

  • a divine androgyne
  • and “the hieroglyph of arcane perfection”:

Seen as that which reflects. “What occurs above so reflects below, or As above so below” 

This serpent, SATAN, is not the enemy of Man,

but He who made Gods of our race, knowing Good and Evil;

He bade ‘Know Thyself!’ and taught Initiation.

He is ‘The Devil’ of The Book of Thoth,

and His emblem is BAPHOMET,

the Androgyne who is the hieroglyph of arcane perfection…

He is therefore Life, and Love.

But moreover his letter is ayin, the Eye,so that he is Light;

The Celts understood trees as elegant illustrations of the deeper secrets to life. By observing trees with soulful vision they saw into deeper worlds of wonder, perfection, and arcane wisdom.   In fact, one of the most celebrated motifs in Celtic knot work is the Life Tree. It is an artistic design of the Oak, which is considered a ‘chieftain’ in the Celtic classification of trees (Ogham) because of its regal stature. Strong, noble and expansive in growth, the Oak is the patriarch of the forest. This Life Tree design is noteworthy because the interweaving pattern of branches is identical to the root system. Put another way, the branches mirror the root system. There is a profound gift in this observation because trees are living symbols of the Hermetic maxim: ‘As Above, So Below.’

For Crowley, Baphomet is further a representative of the spiritual nature of the spermatozoa while also being symbolic of the “magical child” produced as a result of sex magic. As such, Baphomet represents the Union of Opposites, especially as mystically personified in Chaos and Babalon combined and biologically manifested with the sperm and egg united in the zygote.  Crowley proposed that Baphomet was derived from “Father Mithras”. In his Confessions he describes the circumstances that led to this etymology:[58]

In 1900 Aleister Crowley, who styled himself as “The Wickedest Man Alive” attempted to create a dimensional vortex to bridge a gap between the seen and unseen worlds through Alamanthrah Working .

Jack Parsons

In 1946 Jack Parsons and L Ron Hubbard tried to repeat Crowley’s working and called theirs Babylon Working in hopes to incarnate the Whore of Babylon.  Parsons wrote that the ritual was successful and their was a brownish yellow light and at that point he knew they had been successful.  During rocket tests, Parsons often recited Crowley’s poem “Hymn to Pan” as a good luck charm.  He took to addressing Crowley as his “Most Beloved Father” and signed off to him as “thy son, John”.

The Last of the Magicians

It’s hard to find as weird and tragic a tale in the annals of science as that of John Whiteside Parsons.

Born 100 years ago, Parsons seemed devoted to 

  • reconciling opposites, 
  • smashing together the technical and the spiritual,
  • the white lab coat and the black robe,
  • fact and fiction, 
  • science and magic.  

JPL was nicknamed as standing for “Jack Parsons’ Laboratory” or “Jack Parsons Lives”. 

The International Astronomical Union decided to name a crater on the far side of the Moon Parsons after him in 1972.

“Often an enigma to his friends [he] actually led two lives….In one he probed deep into the scientific fields of speed and sound and stratosphere—and in another he sought the cosmos which man has strived throughout the ages to attain; 

to weld science and philosophy and religion into a Utopian existence,” wrote one paper.

Soon the newspapers were at fever pitch with talk of

  • “sexual perversion,”
  • “black robes,”
  • “sacred fire,”
  • and “intellectual necromancy.”

At the heart of every story was one simple question: Who the heck was this guy?  

The Babylon Working explicitly stated the goal of

  • transforming traditional values
  • using very high dark ritual magic
  •  aimed at incarnating this Archtypal divine femine
  • who was going to change our culture through her influence.  

The moon child through 9th degree sex magick (Liber) – The Book of the Law (written by Crowley).

 Parsons boasted that he was successful in creating the embodiment of the Whore of Babylon .

 She was conceived in 1946 and compared it to the immaculate conception.  

He said Babylon is incaranate on the earth today.

 He was awaiting the proper hour of her manifestation.

 English Thelemite Kenneth Grant suggested that Parsons’ Babalon Working marked the start of the appearance of flying saucers in the skies, leading to phenomena such as the Roswell UFO incident and Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting.  Cameron postulated that the 1952 Washington, D.C. UFO incident was a spiritual reaction to Parsons’ death.   In 1954 she portrayed Babalon in American Thelemite Kenneth Anger’s short film Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome, viewing this cinematic depiction of a Thelemic ritual as aiding the literal invocation of Babalon begun by Parsons’ working, and later said that his Book of the AntiChrist prophecies were fulfilled through the manifestation of Babalon in her person

The young Parsons spoke for hours with Wernher von Braun, the Nazi scientist in phone correspondence about rocketry.

  • Von Braun was responsible for the creation of the Research Institute at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
    • As a result of his vision, the university is one of the leading universities in the nation for NASA-sponsored research.  The building housing the university’s Research Institute was named in his honor, Von Braun Research Hall, in 2000.  
  • During the late 1960s, von Braun was instrumental in the development of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. 

“[Parsons] treated magic and rocketry as different sides of the same coin:

  • both had been disparaged,
  • both derided as impossible,
  • but because of this
    • both presented themselves as challenges to be conquered.

Rocketry postulated that

  • we should no longer see ourselves as creatures chained to the earth
  • but as beings capable of exploring the universe.

Similarly, magic suggested there were unseen metaphysical worlds that existed and could be explored with the right knowledge.

Both rocketry and magic

  • were rebellions against the very limits of human existence;
  • in striving for one challenge he could not help but strive for the other.”

An adder stone is a type of stone, usually glassy, with a naturally occurring hole through it. Such stones have been discovered by archaeologists in both Britain and Egypt. Commonly, they are found in Northern Germany at the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas.

In Britain they are also called 

  • hag stones, 
  • witch stones, 
  • serpent’s eggs, 
  • snake’s eggs,
  • or Glain Neidr in Wales, 
  • milpreve in Cornwall, 
  • adderstanes in the south of Scotland 
  • and Gloine nan Druidh (“Druids’ glass” in Scottish Gaelic) in the north.

In Germany they are called Hühnergötter (“chicken gods”). In Egypt they are called aggry or aggri.

Adder stones were believed to have magical powers such as protection against eye diseases or evil charms, preventing nightmares, curing whooping cough, the ability to see through fairy or witch disguises and traps if looked at through the middle of the stone, and recovery from snakebite. According to popular conception, a true adder stone will float in water.

Three traditions exist as to the origins of adder stones. One holds that the stones are the hardened saliva of large numbers of serpents massing together, the perforations being caused by their tongues. The second claims that an adder stone comes from the head of a serpent or is made by the sting of an adder. The third is more modern (and much easier to attain). It details that the stone can be any rock with a hole bored through the middle by water. Human intervention (i.e., direction of water or placement of the stone) is not allowed.[2]

Adder stone was held in high esteem amongst the Druids. It was one of their distinguishing badges, and was accounted to possess the most extraordinary virtues. There is a passage in Pliny’s Natural History, book XXII, describing the nature and the properties of this amulet. The following is a translation of it:

“There is a sort of egg in great repute among the Gauls, of which the Greek writers have made no mention. A vast number of serpents are twisted together in summer, and coiled up in an artificial knot by their saliva and slime; and this is called “the serpent’s egg”. The druids say that it is tossed in the air with hissings and must be caught in a cloak before it touches the earth. The person who thus intercepts it, flies on horseback; for the serpents will pursue him until prevented by intervening water. This egg, though bound in gold will swim against the stream. And the magi are cunning to conceal their frauds, they give out that this egg must be obtained at a certain age of the moon. I have seen that egg as large and as round as a common sized apple, in a chequered cartilaginous cover, and worn by the Druids. It is wonderfully extolled for gaining lawsuits, and access to kings. It is a badge which is worn with such ostentation, that I knew a Romanknight, a Vocontian, who was slain by the stupid emperorClaudius, merely because he wore it in his breast when a lawsuit was pending.”[3]

Huddleston’s edition of John Toland’s “History of the Druids” gives some very ingenious conjectures on the subject of this very enigmatical Druids’ egg. The amulets of glass and stone, which are still preserved and used with implicit faith in many parts of Scottish Gaeldom, and are conveyed, for the cure of diseases to a great distance, seem to have their origin in this bauble of ancient priestcraft.[4]

The human head was revered by the Celts.

They believed that the head, not the heart housed the soul of a person.

In battle, heads of slain enemy warriors were severed and avidly collected as reported by the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus (60-30BC) “…they cut off the heads of enemies slain in battle and attach them to the necks of their horses. The heads of the most distinguished enemies they embalm in cedar oil and display with pride to strangers…” This practice is frequently referred to in Celtic mythology. After his first battle, Cuchhulainn had 3 heads attached to his chariot, 9 heads in one hand and 10 in the other. Don’t mess with Cuchhulainn!

Celtic belief also held that the severed head could continue to live, eat, talk and even sing independently of the body. It was thought that they could foretell the future or recall the past. Again mythology gives us the story of Bendigeidfran, Bran the Blessed, whose head was cut from his poisoned body and carried to and island off the coast of Wales, where it continued to speak prophetically for 87 years. It was eventually buried at the White Mount or Hill in London.

The association of severed human heads and skulls with sacred Wells and Springs, especially those with healing properties, was very ancient and common to the early Celtic world in general. It was believed that the power of the head would increase the power of the water and visa versa. Later, when head lopping was not so fashionable, the cult of the head remained important and heads carved in stone or metal would often act as a substitute for human skulls.

Greek and Roman writers frequently made reference to the druids as practitioners of human sacrifice.

 According to Caesar, those who had been found guilty of theft or other criminal offences were considered preferable for use as sacrificial victims, but when criminals were in short supply, innocents would be acceptable.

A form of sacrifice recorded by Caesar was the burning alive of victims in a large wooden effigy, now often known as a Wicker Man.

A differing account came from the 10th-century Commenta Bernensia, which claimed that sacrifices to the deities Teutates, Esus and Taranis were by drowning, hanging, and burning, respectively (see threefold death).

Diodorus Siculus asserts that a sacrifice acceptable to the Celtic gods had to be attended by a druid, for they were the intermediaries between the people and the divinities.

He remarked upon the importance of prophets in druidic ritual:

“These men predict the future by observing the flight and calls of birds and by the sacrifice of holy animals:
all orders of society are in their power…
and in very important matters they prepare a human victim,
plunging a dagger into his chest;
by observing the way his limbs convulse as he falls and the gushing of his blood,
they are able to read the future.”

There is archaeological evidence from western Europe that has been widely used to back up the idea that human sacrifice was performed by the Iron Age Celts. Mass graves found in a ritual context dating from this period have been unearthed in Gaul, at both Gournay-sur-Aronde and Ribemont-sur-Ancre in what was the region of the Belgae chiefdom. The excavator of these sites, Jean-Louis Brunaux, interpreted them as areas of human sacrifice in devotion to a war god, although this view was criticized by another archaeologist, Martin Brown, who believed that the corpses might be those of honoured warriors buried in the sanctuary rather than sacrifices.

Diodorus Siculus, writing in 36 BCE, described how the druids followed “the Pythagorean doctrine”, that human souls “are immortal and after a prescribed number of years they commence a new life in a new body.”[29] In 1928, folklorist Donald A. Mackenzie speculated that Buddhist missionaries had been sent by the Indian king Ashoka.[30] Others have invoked common Indo-European parallels.[31] Caesar noted the druidic doctrine of the original ancestor of the tribe, whom he referred to as Dispater, or Father Hades.

The same is true of galaxies in clusters, which leads scientists to believe that something we cannot see is at work. They think something we have yet to detect directly is giving these galaxies extra mass, generating the extra gravity they need to stay intact. This strange and unknown matter was called “dark matter” since it is not visible.

DARK MATTER

Unlike normal matter, dark matter does not interact with the electromagnetic force. This means it does not absorb, reflect or emit light, making it extremely hard to spot. In fact, researchers have been able to infer the existence of dark matter only from the gravitational effect it seems to have on visible matter. Dark matter seems to outweigh visible matter roughly six to one, making up about 27% of the universe. Here’s a sobering fact: The matter we know and that makes up all stars and galaxies only accounts for 5% of the content of the universe! But what is dark matter? One idea is that it could contain “supersymmetric particles” – hypothesized particles that are partners to those already known in the Standard Model. Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) may provide more direct clues about dark matter.

Many theories say the dark matter particles would be light enough to be produced at the LHC. If they were created at the LHC, they would escape through the detectors unnoticed. However, they would carry away energy and momentum, so physicists could infer their existence from the amount of energy and ha

ve any local gravitational effects, but rather a global effect on the universe as a whole. This leads to a repulsive force, which tends to accelerate the expansion of the universe. The rate of expansion and its acceleration can be measured by observations based on the Hubble law. These measurements, together with other scientific data, have confirmed the existence of dark energy and provide an estimate of just how much of this mysterious substance exists.

The Great Work (Latin: Magnum opus) is an alchemical term for the process of working with the prima materia to create the philosopher’s stone. It has been used to describe personal and spiritual transmutation in the Hermetic tradition, attached to laboratory processes and chemical color changes, used as a model for the individuation process, and as a device in art and literature. The magnum opus has been carried forward in New Age and neo-Hermetic movements which sometimes attached new symbolism and significance to the processes. 

In alchemy, prima materia, materia prima or first matter, is the ubiquitous starting material required for the alchemical magnum opus and the creation of the philosopher’s stone. It is the primitive formless base of all matter similar to chaos, the quintessence, or aether. Esoteric alchemists describe the prima materia using simile, and compare it to concepts like the anima mundi.   Alchemical authors used similes to describe the universal nature of the prima materia.  Arthur Edward Waite states that all alchemical writers concealed its “true name”. Since the prima materia has all the qualities and properties of elementary things, the names of all kinds of things were assigned to it.[5] A similar account can be found in the Theatrum Chemicum:

They have compared the “prima materia” to everything, to male and female, to the hermaphroditic monster, to heaven and earth, to body and spirit, chaos, microcosm, and the confused mass; it contains in itself all colors and potentially all metals; there is nothing more wonderful in the world, for it begets itself, conceives itself, and gives birth to itself.[6]

Comparisons have been made to Hyle, the primal fire, Proteus, Light, and Mercury.[7] Martin Ruland the Younger lists more than fifty synonyms for the prima materia in his 1612 alchemical dictionary. His text includes justifications for the names and comparisons. He repeats that, the philosophers have so greatly admired the Creature of God which is called the Primal Matter, especially concerning its efficacy and mystery, that they have given to it many names, and almost every possible description, for they have not known how to sufficiently praise it.

The Celts believed hazelnuts gave one wisdom and inspiration. There are numerous variations on an ancient tale that nine hazel trees grew around a sacred pool, dropping into the water nuts that were eaten by salmon(a fish sacred to Druids), which absorbed the wisdom. A Druid teacher, in his bid to become omniscient, caught one of these special salmon and asked a student to cook the fish, but not to eat it. While he was cooking it, a blister formed and the pupil used his thumb to burst it, which he naturally sucked to cool, thereby absorbing the fish’s wisdom. This boy was called Fionn Mac Cumhail (Fin McCool) and went on to become one of the most heroic leaders in Gaelic mythology.[13]
