Matthew 5: Jesus Fulfills the Law

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.19Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments [g1785], and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment [g1785] of God by your tradition?
Matthew 15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment [g1785] of God of none effect by your tradition.

Matthew 19 : The Rich Young Man(Mark 10:17-31Luke 18:18-30)

16And, behold, one came and said to him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17And he said to him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments [g1785]. 18He said to him, Which? Jesus said, You shall do no murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19Honor your father and your mother: and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.20The young man said to him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21Jesus said to him, If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.22But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

23Then said Jesus to his disciples, Truly I say to you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26But Jesus beheld them, and said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Matthew 22 : The Greatest Commandment (Deuteronomy 6:1-19Mark 12:28-34)

34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36Master, which is the great commandment [g1785]in the law? 37Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind38This is the first and great commandment [g1785]. 39And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.40On these two commandments [g1785]hang all the law and the prophets.

Mark 7 : Tradition and Vain Worship (Matthew 15:1-9)

1Then came together to him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashed, hands, they found fault. 3For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brazen vessels, and of tables. 5Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not your disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? 6He answered and said to them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7However, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8For laying aside the commandment [g1785]of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things you do.

9And he said to them, Full well you reject the commandment [g1785]of God, that you may keep your own tradition. 10For Moses said, Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoever curses father or mother, let him die the death: 11But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatever you might be profited by me; he shall be free.12And you suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which you have delivered: and many such like things do you.

What Defiles a Man (Matthew 15:10-20)

14And when he had called all the people to him, he said to them, Listen to me every one of you, and understand: 15There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. 16If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 17And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18And he said to them, Are you so without understanding also? Do you not perceive, that whatever thing from without enters into the man, it cannot defile him; 19Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats? 20And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man. 21For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Mark 10 : Jesus’ Teaching about Divorce (Matthew 19:1-12)

1And he arose from there, and comes into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort to him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. 2And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3And he answered and said to them, What did Moses command you? 4And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorce, and to put her away. 5And Jesus answered and said to them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept [g1785]. 6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and join to his wife; 8And they two shall be one flesh: so then they are no more two, but one flesh. 9What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.

10And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. 11And he said to them, Whoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her. 12And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she commits adultery.

Mark 10:19 Thou knowest the commandments [g1785], Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

Mark 12 : The Greatest Commandment (Deuteronomy 6:1-19Matthew 22:34-40)

28And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment [g1785]of all? 29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [g1785]is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment [g1785]. 31And the second is like, namely this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other commandment [g1785]greater than these. 32And the scribe said to him, Well, Master, you have said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that dared ask him any question.

Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments [g1785] and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Luke 15:29 And he answering said to [his] father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment [g1785]: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
Luke 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments [g1785], Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment [g1785].
John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment [g1785] have I received of my Father.
John 11:57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment [g1785], that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew [it], that they might take him.

John 12: Some Believe in Jesus

42Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44Jesus cried and said, He that believes on me, believes not on me, but on him that sent me. 45And he that sees me sees him that sent me. 46I am come a light into the world, that whoever believes on me should not abide in darkness. 47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment [g1785], what I should say, and what I should speak. 50And I know that his commandment [g1785]is life everlasting: whatever I speak therefore, even as the Father said to me, so I speak.

John 13 : A New Command I Give You (Romans 12:9-131 John 3:11-24)

31Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. 33Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek me: and as I said to the Jews, Where I go, you cannot come; so now I say to you. 34A new commandment [g1785]I give to you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.

John 14  : The Way, the Truth, and the Life

5Thomas said to him, Lord, we know not where you go; and how can we know the way? 6Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.

7If you had known me, you should have known my Father also: and from now on you know him, and have seen him.

8Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it suffises us. 9Jesus said to him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father?10Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak to you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. 12Truly, truly, I say to you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father. 13And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28-32John 16:5-16Acts 2:1-13Acts 10:44-48Acts 19:1-7)

15If you love me, keep my commandments [g1785].

16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.

18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but you see me: because I live, you shall live also. 20At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21He that has my commandments [g1785], and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22Judas said to him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world? 23Jesus answered and said to him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our stayed with him. 24He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

25These things have I spoken to you, being yet present with you. 26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you.

Peace I Leave with You (Romans 5:1-5)

27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28You have heard how I said to you, I go away, and come again to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I said, I go to the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, you might believe. 30Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me. 31But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

John 15  : Jesus the True Vine

1I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. 2Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. 4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. 5I am the vine, you are the branches: He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. 6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you. 8Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples.9As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love. 10If you keep my commandments [g1785], you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments [g1785], and abide in his love. 11These things have I spoken to you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12This is my commandment [g1785], That you love one another, as I have loved you.

1 Timothy 6: Contentment in Godliness

6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Fight the Good Fight

11But you, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto you are also called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses. 13I give you charge in the sight of God, who vivifies all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14That you keep this commandment [g1785]without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach to; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments [g1785].

1 John 2 : Jesus is Our Advocate

1My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our’s only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments [g1785]. 4He that said, I know him, and keeps not his commandments [g1785], is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But whoever keeps his word, in him truly is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6He that said he stays in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

A New Command

7Brothers, I write no new commandment [g1785]to you, but an old commandment [g1785] which you had from the beginning. The old commandment [g1785]is the word which you have heard from the beginning. 8Again, a new commandment [g1785]I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. 9He that said he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10He that loves his brother stays in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.

12I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. 13I write to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. 14I have written to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God stays in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.

Do Not Love the World

15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God stays for ever.

1 John 3 : Love One Another (John 13:31-35Romans 12:9-13)

11For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And why slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. 13Marvel not, my brothers, if the world hate you. 14We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brothers. He that loves not his brother stays in death. 15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17But whoever has this world’s good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? 18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 22And whatever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments [g1785], and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 23And this is his commandment [g1785], That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment [g1785]. 24And he that keeps his commandments [g1785]dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he stays in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.

1 John 4 : Love Comes from God

7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. 8He that loves not knows not God; for God is love. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

15Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God. 16And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. 17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. 19We love him, because he first loved us. 20If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21And this commandment [g1785]have we from him, That he who loves God love his brother also.

1 John 5  :Overcoming the World

1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that begat loves him also that is begotten of him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments [g1785]. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments [g1785]: and his commandments [g1785]are not grievous. 4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

5Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.8And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

2 John 2 : Walking in the Truth (John 8:31-41)

4I rejoiced greatly that I found of your children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment [g1785] from the Father. 5And now I beseech you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment [g1785]to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments [g1785]. This is the commandment [g1785], That, as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments [g1785] of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments [g1785] of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments [g1785], that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Matthew 3 : The Mission of John the Baptist (Isaiah 40:1-5Mark 1:1-8Luke 3:1-20John 1:19-28)

1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2And saying, repent [g3340]you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leather girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. 5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance [g3341]: 9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 10And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11I indeed baptize you with water to repentance [g3341]. but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. 12Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, repent [g3340]: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 11 : Jesus Testifies about John (Luke 1:5-25Luke 7:24-35Luke 16:14-17)

7And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 8But what went you out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9But what went you out for to see? A prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you.

11Truly I say to you, Among them that are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14And if you will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. 15He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like to children sitting in the markets, and calling to their fellows, 17And saying, We have piped to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not lamented. 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a devil. 19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a drunkard, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Woe to the Unrepentant (Luke 10:13-16)

20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented [g3340]not: 21Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented [g3340]long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22But I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. 23And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, shall be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in you, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24But I say to you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.

Rest for the Weary (Luke 10:21-24)

25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. 26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in your sight. 27All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Luke 3 : The Mission of John the Baptist (Isaiah 40:1-5Matthew 3:1-12Mark 1:1-8John 1:19-28)

1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, 2Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.3And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance [g3341]for the remission of sins;

4As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

6And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

7Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance [g3341], and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say to you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 9And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11He answers and said to them, He that has two coats, let him impart to him that has none; and he that has meat, let him do likewise. 12Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Master, what shall we do? 13And he said to them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. 14And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

15And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;16John answered, saying to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I comes, the lace of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

18And many other things in his exhortation preached he to the people. 19But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, 20Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

The Sermon on the Mount ( Matthew 5 – 7 )

Matthew 5 : The Sermon on the Mount

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came to him: 2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

The Beatitudes (Psalm 1:1-6Luke 6:20-23)

3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Salt and Light (Philippians 2:12-18)

13You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his flavor, with which shall it be salted? it is thereafter good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Jesus Fulfills the Law

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.19Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Anger and Reconciliation (Luke 12:57-59)

21You have heard that it was said of them of old time, You shall not kill; and whoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. 23Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has ought against you; 24Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.25Agree with your adversary quickly, whiles you are in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. 26Truly I say to you, You shall by no means come out there, till you have paid the uttermost farthing.

Adultery (Leviticus 18:1-30)

27You have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultery: 28But I say to you, That whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29And if your right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. 30And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

Divorce (Deuteronomy 24:1-5Luke 16:18-18)

31It has been said, Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce: 32But I say to you, That whoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.

Vows (Numbers 30:1-16)

33Again, you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, You shall not forswear yourself, but shall perform to the Lord your oaths: 34But I say to you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: 35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36Neither shall you swear by your head, because you can not make one hair white or black. 37But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatever is more than these comes of evil.

Love Your Enemies  (Leviticus 24:17-23Luke 6:27-36)

38You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if any man will sue you at the law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. 41And whoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him two. 42Give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not you away.

43You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. 44But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if you love them which love you, what reward have you? do not even the publicans the same? 47And if you salute your brothers only, what do you more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48Be you therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 6 : Instruction about Giving (Deuteronomy 15:7-11)

1Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. 3But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does: 4That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.

The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:1-4)

5And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. 6But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.

7But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not you therefore like to them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him.

9After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name.

10Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11Give us this day our daily bread.

12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Proper Fasting

16Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; 18That you appear not to men to fast, but to your Father which is in secret: and your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly.

Treasures in Heaven (Matthew 13:44-46)

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Lamp of the Body (Luke 11:33-36)

22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light. 23But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Do Not Worry (Luke 12:22-34)

25Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? 27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature? 28And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Why, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. 33But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 7 : Do Not Judge (Luke 6:37-42Romans 14:1-12)

1Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why behold you the mote that is in your brother’s eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye? 4Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull out the mote out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then shall you see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother’s eye.

6Give not that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast you your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Ask, Seek, Knock (Luke 11:5-13)

7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: 8For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

12Therefore all things whatever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

The Narrow Gate (Luke 13:22-30)

13Enter you in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it.

A Tree and its Fruit (Matthew 12:33-37Luke 6:43-45)

15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Why by their fruits you shall know them.

21Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

The House on the Rock (Luke 6:46-49)

24Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, which built his house on a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell not: for it was founded on a rock. 26And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, which built his house on the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

The Authority of Jesus

28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The LAW given at MOUNT SINAI

Exodus 20 : The Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 5:6-21)

1And God spoke all these words, saying,

2I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3You shall have no other gods before me.

4You shall not make to you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And showing mercy to thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.

8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: 10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long on the land which the LORD your God gives you.

13You shall not kill.

14You shall not commit adultery.

15You shall not steal.

16You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is your neighbor’s.

Moses Comforts the People (Deuteronomy 5:22-33Hebrews 12:18-29)

18And all the people saw the thunder, and the lightning, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19And they said to Moses, Speak you with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 20And Moses said to the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you sin not. 21And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

Idolatry Forbidden (Leviticus 19:1-81 Corinthians 10:14-22)

22And the LORD said to Moses, Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 23You shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall you make to you gods of gold.

The Altar of Sacrifice (Deuteronomy 27:1-10)

24An altar of earth you shall make to me, and shall sacrifice thereon your burnt offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come to you, and I will bless you. 25And if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone: for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it. 26Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness be not discovered thereon.

Exodus 21 : Laws for Servants (Deuteronomy 15:12-18)

1Now these are the judgments which you shall set before them.

2If you buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. 3If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. 4If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself. 5And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: 6Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

7And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. 8If she please not her master, who has betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her to a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he has dealt deceitfully with her. 9And if he have betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. 10If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.11And if he do not these three to her, then shall she go out free without money.

20And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.21Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

22If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23And if any mischief follow, then you shall give life for life, 24Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake.27And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.

28If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit. 29But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it has been testified to his owner, and he has not kept him in, but that he has killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death. 30If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid on him. 31Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done to him. 32If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

35And if one man’s ox hurt another’s, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide. 36Or if it be known that the ox has used to push in time past, and his owner has not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

Exodus 22 : Property Laws

1If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

10If a man deliver to his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it: 11Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he has not put his hand to his neighbor’s goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good. 12And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner thereof. 13If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

14And if a man borrow ought of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good. 15But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.

25If you lend money to any of my people that is poor by you, you shall not be to him as an usurer, neither shall you lay on him usury. 26If you at all take your neighbor’s raiment to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by that the sun goes down: 27For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he cries to me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

28You shall not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of your people.

29You shall not delay to offer the first of your ripe fruits, and of your liquors: the firstborn of your sons shall you give to me.30Likewise shall you do with your oxen, and with your sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day you shall give it me.

31And you shall be holy men to me: neither shall you eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; you shall cast it to the dogs.

Exodus 23 : Justice and Mercy

1You shall not raise a false report: put not your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

2You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shall you speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:

3Neither shall you countenance a poor man in his cause.

4If you meet your enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again.

5If you see the ass of him that hates you lying under his burden, and would forbear to help him, you shall surely help with him.

6You shall not wrest the judgment of your poor in his cause.

7Keep you far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay you not: for I will not justify the wicked.

8And you shall take no gift: for the gift blinds the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

9Also you shall not oppress a stranger: for you know the heart of a stranger, seeing you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Sabbath Laws (Leviticus 25:1-7Deuteronomy 15:1-6)

10And six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in the fruits thereof:

11But the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie still; that the poor of your people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner you shall deal with your vineyard, and with your olive grove.

12Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest: that your ox and your ass may rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

13And in all things that I have said to you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of your mouth.

Three Yearly Feasts (Leviticus 23:1-3)

14Three times you shall keep a feast to me in the year.

15You shall keep the feast of unleavened bread: (you shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it you came out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)

16And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you have sown in the field:

and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when you have gathered in your labors out of the field.

17Three items in the year all your males shall appear before the LORD God.

18You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

19The first of the first fruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.

God’s Angel to Lead (Deuteronomy 7:12-26)

20Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. 22But if you shall indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. 23For my Angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off. 24You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but you shall utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images. 25And you shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless your bread, and your water; and I will take sickness away from the middle of you. 26There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in your land: the number of your days I will fulfill. 27I will send my fear before you, and will destroy all the people to whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. 29I will not drive them out from before you in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against you. 30By little and little I will drive them out from before you, until you be increased, and inherit the land. 31And I will set your bounds from the Red sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and you shall drive them out before you. 32You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me: for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.

Exodus 24 : The Covenant Sealed

1And he said to Moses, Come up to the LORD, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship you afar off. 2And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come near; neither shall the people go up with him.

3And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD has said will we do. 4And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. 6And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient. 8And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.

9Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.11And on the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

Moses on the Mountain

12And the LORD said to Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give you tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that you may teach them. 13And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God. 14And he said to the elders, Tarry you here for us, until we come again to you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come to them. 15And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. 16And the glory of the LORD stayed on mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud. 17And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18And Moses went into the middle of the cloud, and got him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
