ECCLESIASTES 12

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:   FEARGod,

and keep his commandments:

this is the whole duty of man

PSALM 34

9 O FEAR the LORD, ye his saints:

 for [there is] NO WANT

 to them that FEAR him.

Proverbs 23:17

Let not thine heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the FEAR OF THE LORD all the day long

KEEPING HIS COMMANDS means NOT COVETING or DESIRING and to CRUCIFY LUSTS and PASSION

FEARING GOD means fearing the consequences for not being obedient to what he commanded us to do.

Psalm 19 : The Heavens Declare the Glory of God

9The  FEAR OF THE LORD is CLEAN, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward

DEUTERONOMY 6 :  THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT (Matthew 22:34-40Mark 12:28-34)

1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go to possess it: 2That you might FEAR the LORD your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. 3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you, in the land that flows with milk and honey.

Psalm 34:11

Come, ye children, hearken unto me:  I will teach you the FEAR OF THE LORD

psalm 25 :  Fear of the Lord

14 The SECRET OF THE LORD is for those who FEAR Him     and He will make them know His covenant.

Luke 1 : Mary’s Song of Praise

50And HIS MERCY is on them that FEAR HIM from generation to generation.

Simply put, If you don’t FEAR God, then you don’t know who He is.

These are the Hebrew words used for FEAR in the bible.

FEAR
[h3372]  יָרֵא yârêʼ

  • a primitive root;
  • morally to revere;
  • causatively to frighten:” —
  • affright, be afraid, dread,
  • (put in) fear, reverence
FEARING
[h3373]  יָרֵא yârêʼ

  • from[h3372]
  • morally reverent
  • —afraid, fear (-ful)
FEAR

[h3374] יִרְאָה yirʼâh

  • feminine of [h3373]
  • reverence:-

NOT FEARING GOD completely disregards

  • that God has an adversary;
  • that their are enemies of the cross;
  • the judgement and wrath of God;
  • spiritual warfare;
  • God’s Chosen People vs The Nations.
  • The sheep vs goats
  • The wheat vs tares
  • Wickedness vs righteousness

Now how do you explain…

  • God literally destroyed the whole earth except for 8 people.
  • God was wiping out civilizations in the Old Testament?
  • David beheading Goliath?
  • Revelation?

Proverbs 1:29  For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the  FEAR OF THE LORD

PSALM 46 : GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolation’s he has made in the earth.

PSALM 119 :

49Remember the word to your servant, on which you have caused me to hope.  50This is my comfort in my affliction: for your word has quickened me. 51The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from your law. I remembered your judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.

lUKE 21 : RETURN OF SON OF MAN

26Men’s HEARTS FAILING FOR FEAR, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken

lUKE 21 : RETURN OF SON OF MAN

34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come on you unawares. 35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.  36Watch you therefore, and pray always,  that you may be accounted WORTHY TO ESCAPE all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Malachi 3 : The Book of Remembrance

16Then they that FEARED the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD listened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that FEARED the LORD, and that thought on his name.17And they shall be mine, said the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him.18Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that serves him not.

PHILIPPIANS 2 : SHINING AS STARS (Matthew 5:13-16)

12Why, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own SALVATION WITH FEAR and trembling

1 PETER 1 : A LIVING HOPE, AND A SURE SALVATION

17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, CONDUCT YOURSELVES IN FEAR during the time of your stay on earth;

THE PARADOX OF FEAR

  • FEAR is an emotion every human being has.
  • We have to FEAR GOD – so that – we will not FEAR anything else.
  • The only one way to get rid of FEAR is by FEARING God.
  • The only way to NOT BE FEARFUL is to – FEAR
  • You CANNOT- NOT FEAR
  • The only way to address FEAR – is with – FEAR

This paradox can be seen with Moses and with Jesus.

EXODUS 20 : 20

And Moses said unto the people FEAR NOT:for God is come to prove you, and that HIS FEARmay be before your facesthat ye sin not.

LUKE 12 : FEARING GOD ALONE

4And I say to you my friends, BE NOT AFRAID of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

5But I will forewarn you whom you shall FEAR: FEAR HIM, which after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, FEAR HIM.

6Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

 7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. FEAR NOT therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.

The only appropriate response to God’s holiness is FEAR, which is essential to wisdom and true faith, as well as wholehearted devotion and obedience.

FEAR

1 JOHN 4 : LOVE COMES FROM GOD

15Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God. 16And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.

17HEREIN IS OUR LOVE MADE PERFECT

that we may have BOLDNESS IN THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

because as he is, so are we in this world.

18There is NO FEAR IN LOVE;

but PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR:

because FEAR has TORMENT.

He that FEARS is not made perfect in love.

19We love him, because he first loved us.

Fearing God, means you fear His judgement’s for being disobedient to what He asks of us.  That FEAR leads to being obedient to His Commandments and our love is made perfect.   When you keep His commandments you are CONTENT because you are not coveting and caught up with the cares of this life and breaking the 10th commandment.  When you are obeying His commands you bear the fruit of His spirit and are abiding in His love.   When we abide in His perfect love by keeping His commandments,  FEAR is cast out.

This gives us boldness and confidence in the Day of Judgement

When we MISPLACE OUR FEAR in anything other than God,then FEAR SPREADS into every aspect of your life.

  • Fear of missing out.
  • Fear of not being good enough.
  • Fear of danger.
  • Fear of loss.
  • Fear of death
  • Fear of not having enough.
  • Fear of other peoples opinions of you

It starts off with worry,  then leads to paralyzing anxiety.
