Matthew 15 :  The Faith of the Canaanite Woman

After Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim, led them to the Promised Land after  Moses had died, they had judges set over them.

Then Saul became king for before David took the throne.   After David, Solomon led Israel to follow other gods.

   God said He would scatter them among the nations,  if they didn’t follow his instructions, in the Covenant made at Moab.  

 

I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.  18For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

 

 So after Solomon died, He gave: 10 tribes of Israel to Jeroboam (who was from the tribe of Ephraim)  and 2 to Judah.

 

 

The Northern Kingdom did nothing different than what Solomon did under his rule.  

In 721 BC God had Assyria conquer Sumeria and take the Northern Kingdom captive to Assyria. 

God divorced the Northern Kingdom because they hardened their hearts and rejected God’s Law in pursuing other gods.  

 

They are truly, no longer His people.    

2 Kings 17:  Israel Exiled Because of Idolatry  

15And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them. 16And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. 17And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 18Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

Israel, the Northern Kingdom, Exiled

They served Baal.  “Baal” is the Canaanite name of “Nimrod” who built the tower.

You would think with all that happened to the Northern Kingdom,  the Southern Kingdom would make it a lesson learned for themselves. 

JEREMIAH 3

 

8And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.  

Since they didn’t learn their lesson from the Northern Kingdom, they were taken captive to Babylon. 

The  SOUTHERN KINGDOM was EXILEDin Babylon for 70 years before returning back to Jerusalem

The Northern Kingdom, however, never returned and rarely acknowledged as unified entity in scripture again, because they were eventually dispersed and never returned to Sumeria, like the Southern Kingdom returned to Judah.

How can God search for his lost sheep, after He has already divorced her?

DEUTERONOMY 24 : LAW OF DIVORCE

1When a man has taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her: THEN LET HIM WRITE HER A BILL OF DIVORCE, AND GIVE IT IN HER HAND, AND SEND HER OUT OF HIS HOUSE. 2And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife. 3And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorce, and gives it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; 4HER FORMER HUSBAND, WHICH SENT HER AWAY, MAY NOT TAKE HER AGAIN TO BE HIS WIFE, AFTER THAT SHE IS DEFILED; FOR THAT IS ABOMINATION BEFORE THE LORD: AND YOU SHALL NOT CAUSE THE LAND TO SIN, WHICH THE LORD YOUR GOD GIVES YOU FOR AN INHERITANCE.

This was a great mystery to all the priests and rabbis.  

 

They wondered how can He remarry the very one He divorced and declared to have given herself over to prostitution.

 

 God can not break the very righteous laws that define his own Righteousness.  

 

 

Breaking the law of God is Sin, the law defines sin according to God’s own words.  God cannot Sin.

 

 How then can God remarry the lost sheep of Israel without breaking His own Law?

 

 

 

This is what Paul referred to as the Great Mystery of the Gospel.

 

 

MATTHEW 5 : JESUS FULFILLS THE LAW

ROMANS 7 : RELEASED THROUGH DEATH

but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. 

 

Paul goes onto say that we die in Christ, when we come into the faith.  

 

Releasing both us and God from the requirement of the law as it relates to divorce and remarriage.  

 

So Christ came down and died for the Lost Sheep in order to bring them back into the fold.

 

ROMANS 6 : DEAD TO SIN, ALIVE TO GOD

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. Christ has opened the door that whosoever can call upon Him will be saved.

MATTHEW 5 : JESUS FULFILLS THE LAW

 The only way the covenant could be annulled was through death of either partner.

 

 This was his goal, to die as the Son of God, to restore that which was lost.

 JOHN 15 : GREATER LOVE HAS NO ONE THAN THIS

This is what ‘THE PRODIGAL SON’ is all about.

THE PRODIGAL SON is EPHRAIM who was considered DEAD.

The son of Joseph who was the son of Rachel, the son and wife Jacob loved most.

 

It wasn’t until the perfect son, Jesus, came and died as the son of God to annul the covenant.

 

 To establish the new.  He died in our place.   He came as the Son of God, Israel.

 

Isaac received 1st Born Promise even though he was 2nd born of Abraham

Jacob received 1st Born Promise  even though he was 2nd born of Isaac.

JOSEPH was given the 1ST BORN BIRTHRIGHT PROMISE even though he was the 2nd to youngest of all the tribes.  

EPHRAIM,  received the 1ST BORN blessing from JACOB,  even he was 2nd born of Joseph

NUMBERS 5 :THE ADULTERY TEST

11And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, If any man’s wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him, 13And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner; 14And the spirit of jealousy come on him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come on him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled: 15Then shall the man bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance. 16And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD: 17And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water: 18And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causes the curse: 19And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say to the woman, If no man have lain with you, and if you have not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of your husband, be you free from this bitter water that causes the curse: 20But if you have gone aside to another instead of your husband, and if you be defiled, and some man have lain with you beside your husband:

21Then the priest shall charge THE WOMAN with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say to the woman, The LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when THE LORD DOES MAKE YOUR THIGH TO ROT, AND YOUR BELLY TO SWELL; 22And THIS WATER THAT CAUSES THE CURSE Shall go into your bowels, to make your belly to swell, and  your thigh to rot:  And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.  23And the priest shall write these curses in a book,  AND HE SHALL BLOT THEM OUT WITH THE BITTER WATER:  24And HE SHALL CAUSE THE WOMAN TO DRINK THE BITTER WATER  that causes the curse: and the water that causes  the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.

25Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it on the altar: 26And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water. 27And when he has made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, IF SHE BE DEFILED, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and THE WOMAN SHALL BE A CURSE AMONG HER PEOPLE. 28And IF THE WOMAN BE NOT DEFILED, BUT BE CLEAN; THEN SHE SHALL BE FREE, AND SHALL CONCEIVE SEED.

29THIS IS THE LAW OF JEALOUSIES, when a wife goes aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled; 30Or when the spirit of jealousy comes on him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute on her all this law. 31Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.    

THIS IS THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES WRITTEN ON THE SCROLL that were contrary to us or against us and that were washed off the scroll into the cup. Then was nailed to the cross and to Jesus. HE HAD TO DRINK AS PRESCRIBED IN THE LAW FOR THE WIFE (ISRAEL) ACCUSED OF ADULTERY.   This is the curse mentioned in Numbers 5:21, that he took away from us.

JOHN 1 : THE WORD MADE HIS DWELLING AMONG US

17 For THE LAW was given by Moses, but GRACE and TRUTH came by Jesus Christ. 

He came as the word, to die in our place.  The only way the covenant could be annulled was through death of either partner. This was his goal, to die as the Son of God, to restore that which was lost. 

NAILING THAT JUDGEMENT TO THE CROSS. 

 

He had to drink from the cup, the cup of bitter water, that was to given to the wife, accused of adultery.  He knew what the outcome of the cup would bring,  therefore he prayed for it be taken away, while in the Garden of Gethsemane.  It was these ordinances written on the scroll that were contrary to us or against us and that were washed off the scroll into the cup.    Then was nailed to the cross and to Jesus.  

Now we know why Jesus prayed in the garden…

MATTHEW 26  : JESUS PRAYS IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

39And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, MY FATHER, IF IT BE POSSIBLE, LET THIS CUP PASS AWAY FROM ME: NEVERTHELESS, NOT AS I WILL, BUT AS THOU WILT.

 He endured bitter suffering on the cross and the punishment of the unfaithful spouse.

God Chose Abraham out of the 70 nations that gathered and built the tower at Babel and established his covenant with Him.  He promised to make his a seed as numerous as the stars and promised to give him the land of Canaan.

Jacob and his sons first lived in Canaan and was renamed to Israel which means “He who strives with God”  

Because of famine Israel moved his family from the land  of Canaan to the Land of Goshen, just outside of Egypt.  It is here where Israel blesses the sons of Joseph.  Israel even claims that’s Joseph’s sons are to be treated as his.

Egypt had become Babylon’s new headquarters after God had scattered them at the Tower.

He used as Egypt to refine the hearts of His people and to let them know that He puts a difference between Him and the Egyptians.
